Hey guys I was just wondering about field points and what the sizes mean. I know that grains are weight, but what about when they say 9/32, or 17/64, or 21/64? What do those fractions mean?

I know there are standard and then deep six threads but not sure what the fractions are. These are screw in tips with threads.

Can you guys help clarify this for me?

Thanks guys

Most common size carbon arrows end up being .294" or so which coincides more closely to 19/64". Most shops may not handle this size as they stock both 9/32" and 5/16" points. As mentioned by Sanchez the 5/16" points more often are just large enough to hang up in bag targets and cause excess damage to other targets. 9/32" can be used and really doesn't do any harm, except that over time the insert will wear a little around the outer edge.

However, Gold Tip uses (or at least use to) an insert with a reverse taper which calls for a 5/16" point. Best bet is to take an arrow with you when you shop for points and get the right fit. If you find you need 19/64" points then you can't beat Saunders Combo Points. They come in various common diameters and from 65 grains up to 145 grains (I think).

Hey guys, maybe you guys could help me. I'm new at cross bows. I own the Ballista bat reverse cross bow pistol that comes with 10.5"long 5.5OD practice bolt points. I want to change the points to a bit heavier more deadlier ( I don't mean Broadheads ) more sharper point. I just don't know if the points would be the standard universal size for arrows or a special size for the OD particular 5.5 bolt. I'll appreciate if anybody shares there helpfull knowledge with me. I thank you very much.
