My brother is looking to purchase a couple cell cams and he’s not sure where to start. He has a budget of $500. I don’t have any experience yet with this technology, so I rely on the good ole fashioned AT community.
Thanks in advance, Isaac

Zero question Tactacam. They have this entire market cornered. I run 11 right now. Every single one has been flawless. They're the easiest cam on the market to setup. Every single one has has superb battery life. Alkaline or lithium both are enough to last a season. Night photos are up there with any cam on the market. Videos are beautiful.
I spare no expense on any of my hunting gear, and I couldnt possibly think of a single reason to pay anymore for a cam. Buy and dont look back. Walmart is running a 2 for 200$ deal right now. He can get 4 cams for 430ish bucks after taxes

Im running 16 Tactacam Reveals ( Gen 1's, Reveal X's, and the X-Pro) and 9 Moultrie Edges ( 7 Edges and 2 Edge Pros)

Tactacam is a very solid camera but Moultrie is really gaining ground on them with the Edge. It is a phenomenal camera with NO SD card and NO SIM card to deal with.

Moultrie sends firmware updates automatically and they have customer service reps in the US who answer the phone 7 days a week.

The Edges were on sale for $69/camera recently; not sure if that's still going but retail is $99. They are a no brainer at that price. Great reliability, simple to use and a 2 year warranty.

While my tactacams are great cameras, I sent 2 in this year that were 2 years old that needed service and one could not be repaired.

Tactacams have really been a great camera for me since 2020 but I have more good things to say about the Moultrie Edges than I do Tactacam at this point.

Just some food for thought.

Moultrie Edge is my favorite. I don't know how you can any easier to setup. You just scan the QR on the thing with your phone and slide the switch on. It picks the network for you. The only drawback with the regular Edge is trigger speed and the distance the camera pick up movement. I just set them up accordingly. The Edge Pro is much better in those departments. Battery life is excellent. I get 4 months out of mine with Rayovacs.

Depends on what he wants to do, how to use them. I've used Spypoint and Tactacam. Tactacam definitely has better pics and cameras than Spypoint. With Spypoint you do get 100 free pics every month so you may not have to buy a "plan" depending on how many pictures you get etc. I was looking at Stealth cam as for $5 they give you 600 pics a month where most other cell cameras it's $5 for 250 pics. Currently I use 3 Spypoint cams setup on trails and I don't typically buy any plans as I get less than 100 pics a month.

I just went thru this late July and went from traditional cams to all cell. I'm on Verizon which is probably best coverage for where I live but ZERO on my hunting property. I went with Moultrie Edge and they have an app and it pulls from all networks whoever has the best signal. So where my iPhone is nil I have six cameras that all get a signal from somewhere. I got mine at Academy when they were selling 2 pks for $139 and I bought 3 2pks. They're still selling them for $159 a 2pk.

For $8.99/month you can start and stop at your whim. Verizon was gonna charge me $15/month per camera and lock me into a year.

I've had these cameras out since 7/24 and it looks like they're averaging 7-800 pics/month apiece. My lowest battery on a cam is now 92%. With the Moultries you can put 16 batteries in each cam. It will run the first 8 down to zero and auto switch to the next 8, or you can only put 8 in there. I've been using the Harbor Freight $1.99 for 18 batteries in mine and no issues.

My pics look just as good as anything I've seen people post of their trail cams.

I have three out at present......an "older" Spartan Go-cam, a Gen 1 Reveal and a virtually new Bushnell Cellucore 20. The Bushnell is easy to work with, but the photos are only decent. This is the 3rd season the Tactacam Gen 1 has been in woods.....I like being able to easily suspend my subscription and stop the billing right after season. The Spartan is a workhorse.....been out in the woods continually for over a year. it uses 12 AA batteries and I run alkaline Ray-O-Vacs. They were fresh when I set it in August of '22.....changed in in March when the cam showed zero battery life and still going today at the end of September. However the Spartan setup is VERY unintuitive and they bill in 3 month cycles with no refunds. So one of these times I am going to catch it right and shut it off for the winter.

That Moutrie Edge sounds interesting and might be my next one. I won't be purchasing another Bushnell and not likely a Spartan either.

I've been using Tactacams for awhile now, no complaints other than pic quality.
I just took delivery of a SpyPoint Flex-S with solar panel. Historical the reviews on SP haven't been great, this one seems okay. But at less than half of the $189 price I saw at Cabela's I figured I'd chance it. Needed a cell cam for down by my pond, where all the big bucks seem to pass through.

I recently bought my first cell cam.
Wise Eye Data Cam. I'm using their solar panel rather than batteries.

Right now I'm just using it in the woods behind my house. I have zero experience with cell cams and this has been simple and the photos are very good. I really like the phone app. I purchased from Herd360 and Mike has great customer service.
