Well who is going out, what stand do you think you will hunt. I know the wind effects what stand I hunt, but if it is right I am going to hunt the big boy's bedding area. He lives in a corner of a 50 acre field we have planted in switch grass. There is a little clump of trees in the corner. I am going to come in from the river. I am only going to hunt this stand Oct 1, then wait until the rut to hunt it again. I have glassed the big SOB the last three nights, he is back there. I have hunted this deer last three years and had him in bow range twice. I had the bow back but he got by both times. I have a good feeling!!!!

What setups might you hunt opening day and why, sorry I am just pumed and want to talk hunting!!!!!

Why would anyone want to miss the opener? I'll be there, granted it might be slow at that time of year but I've waited to long for it to get here to pass on it.
I agree, it can be slow, and hot! But last year I got a nice little doe and an 8 point all within an hour of daylight opening morning.

A guy just never knows when it might be a good luck day.

More than likely I will be out there but that all depends on the the weather. If it is going to be 85 degrees like last year then I will porbably hold off until it is a little cooler. I too am hoping to surprise a nice buck early on and if it happens in the first fews days then so be it.

Opening day...and, hopefully I'll hunt every day that I'm not working, plus some mornings and evenings that I am working and I kill the biggest buck and the biggest bull I see all season in the last minute of the last day...Then, I'll have made the most of my season. :)

I will be out opening day going to a stand location I worked on this last weekend. It's on a thick trail in heavy woods between a corn field and a bedding area, hopefully there will be no wind because I'm so dead set on this spot I don't have a back up plan for the morning hunt.

I'll be in my stand waitin' for the sunrise here in MN on Sept 16th guaranteed. I used to start hunting a little later in the season when it's less hot and buggy. Since I started using a trail cam a few years ago, I've noticed that the deer (in the areas I hunt at least) are extremely predictable in mid-September. Once the acorns really start dropping, everything changes, but that first week or so of the season, thanks to the trail cam, I pretty much know what deer will be walking by which stand at what time, given average weather, within about a 10 minute window. This seems to apply only to the does, but that's fine by me. With time at a premium for me and a family that eats a lot of venison, it's been great the last few years to get a couple of deer in the freezer that first week without anyone hardly noticing I was gone.

Yes I will be going regardless of weather, on Aug. 28. It is our opener for deer up here. Don't know where or what stand, but will try to capitalise on summer patters, before the bucks break the bachelor groups. May even get one in velvet. Andy

gotta be out there.........

why would anyone intentionally miss opener?

big bucks can be taken early season.

not used to being hunted yet. not a whole lot has happened in your hunting area if youve been careful.

1st days are hoppin' for me.............no doubt about it.

good luck and good huntin'
