Why do so many people still have their trophies mounted? I think it is a waste of money. I prefer to have a great photo enlarged and mounted in a good frame and use the trophy mounting cost for my next hunt.

A good photo tells people more about the hunt and your excitment of the hunt. It reminds you too of the time and the conditions of the hunt and it takes up less room. A good photo display beats a trophy room hands down.

Just my opinion.

I agree with others. I have everything . . . mounts, 8x10 pictures, photo albums, shed antlers, and other neat things I find in the woods. Saving money isn't my goal, my goal is to do everything I can so that in 40 years when I look in my den and at any given mount, picture or shed, it becomes a time machine, taking me back to the spot and moment that something great in my life happened.

I respectfully disagree. I like both, photos and mounts. A well done mount is a great reminder of the hunt and great addition to my home.

Step through the door of a cabelas and tell me you don't stand there in awe of what you see. There just something about seeing the real thing. Having a trophy hanging on my wall is like having a mini Cabelas in my home, but the significance is magnified by the fact that the animal is my own trophy and my own personal achievement.

It's just like if you were to win a softball tournament. Sure you'd like to have photos to help preserve the memories, but there is just something about having that big trophy on your mantle...

Just a pic of a true trophy animal.... that's just crazy! Please don't mnisunderstand the reasons for the game heads hanging on my wall. They are not there to sooth my ego or brag about my hunting ability, instead they serve as a lasting tribute to some of the most beautiful animals I'll ever see! I personally feel that it is a terrible injustice to NOT have your trophy mounted.

Photos are fine...But you can't touch a photo...And a photo is of a dead animal, where a mount is made to portray the animal when it was alive...I personally like to mount my trophies in the exact same pose they were when I shot them...It makes reliving the day so much more enjoyable and provides good conversation among friends...!

It's like women......looking at a picture is ok, but nothing beats a good mount in the living room. :darkbeer:

I like both

I only pay for one mount per species, unless I take one in velvet and another not in velvet. But we use them to decorate the house. Some people like art. I like hair and bone. Why do people spend so much on paint thrown on a piece of paper??? They like it I guess. To each their own. But I look at mounts and appreciate the work that goes into them. I love my huntin and fishin pic too.

Just photographs

Photos to mount and display, good idea. But Kind of hard to get a good closeup of a dead deer, with blood and his tongue hanging out.
