Here are pics of my string and cable, they are in the neighborhood of 10 years old, but still shoot like a dream. Would you continue to use these, or get a new string and cable?

no,the string is looking pretty bad,but just being 10 years old would stop me from shooting them.

Kinda what I thought, it has gotten worse in the past 6 weeks or so. Last thing I need is for a string to break and blow up my perfectly good 12 year old Z-Max :)

That is only a couple of frayed fibers, not even five percent of a strand. Just wax it down and shoot it for at least another 3 or 4 years. It will tell you when it needs to be replaced.
