I only ask this because I went to Cabella's yesterday.
And every grownup in there shopping and thier kids were just plain good old fat as all git out! I mean huge not just plump in the belly.
I was guessing that game meat must be really fattening?

deer is very lean and full of protein! I'm guessing they're doing more shopping than hunting and eating healthy meat!

actually,

i believe most venison to be lower in fat and cholesterol.

compare cooking ground beef and ground venison side-by-side and you will see a difference!

camoham

I agreee camoham all the deer meat I have eaten has been very lean.
I think maybe they are cutting theres with some kind of bacon and bisciut mixture at the proccessors?

I heard you can become malnoutrishened(is that a word:confused: )by only eating venison, I believe thats why native americans sought out buffalo the way they did. I mean tatanka:tongue:

Nope

Venison and other wild meats - from mamals in particular here - are very low in intramuscular fat. As a result, the meats from these animals is really very lean.

The malnurishment from eating venison was actually something that would affect any one who was restricted to a very lean all protein diet. for example settlers who used to get stuck in winter with nothing but lean game meats. I am forgetting the paper I read on this as part of a work review project a few years back... but the point is this. When FAT was higher they were ok - hence eskimos who can live months on end eating seals and some tribal people that eat almost all milk, blood (better than killing a cow... they are hard to come by in places) for long periods are able to be vibrantly healthy. If I had time now I would look in my files and find the paper so I had the correct terminology... if you go to pubmed.com (or gov) and search author names Cordain or Eaton - Eaton in particular and cross reference with nutrition you will find what I am getting at. Any way the fat allows you to not become sick from eating basically ALL meat. Basically allows you to temper the physical issues related to lots of protein.

Humans are super adaptable and able to be amazingly healthy on a lot of dietary patterns. So, to answer your question, the kids were chubs because they are not active enough and eat poor foods (likely lots of processed foods).

The fact that the fat-uns were at Cabelas has nothing to do with Cabelas, the lifestyle that they promote or wild game meats.... it's just coincidental. Most of the fattys probably spend way too much tme eating fast food, sweets and junk and not getting enough exercise. I think alot of us are guilty of that to an extent....

Some more than others as attested to by their pear like shape!

any of the literature i've read states that deer is lower in total fat and saturated fat, but contains over twice the cholesterol of beef. beef is higher is fat but lower in cholesterol. go figure.

quick comparison
(3 ounces)
cal fat sat.fat cholest.
Deer 128 2 g 1 g 67 mg
Elk 134 2 g 1 g 62 mg
Moose 114 1 g 1 g 66 mg
Beef 185 9 g 4 g 71 mg (lean cut of tenderloin)
Pork 159 5 g 2 g 80 mg

on a separate note, are you seriously in asking that becasue people are in a Cabela's store and are fat that wild game must be what made them fat??????

some more informative numbers on venison

For 1 pound of venison, you would have approximately:

1700 mg potassium
15 mg zinc

Are you seriously asking me if I was seriously thinking that it was game meat that made those tubbies larger then a bass boat? :darkbeer:

Everyone has been correct so far. He only downfall of eating venison is iron. The normal beef of other red meats contain a limited amount of iron. If my memory serves me right, deer has 4 times more iron then beef. Any certified doctor will agree not eating deer more then 2-3 time week.

FYI

Just for explanation: When our bodies over consume a certain vitamin we stop producing it and could put your system out of wack.

Yes, becasue your question in the title of the thread is "Is game meat fattening?"

And then say you only reason you ask this is because everyone is fat in the Cabela's store and then say, you guess that game meat must be really fattening?

pretty much look slike that's what you were asking

.
Now when did they actually invent sarcasm. Cause from the look of things some folk around here are having a pretty hard time seeing it when its smaking them upside the head.
