Hi Im new to the forum. I currently shoot a slow vipertec. I have a 26inch draw but I can pull 70lbs. I shoot my vipertec at 62 because with a custom string and 60lbs max limbs thats all i can get out of it. I dont know if I should buy a bowtech equalizer with a max of 60lbs to get the maximum speed for my short draw or if I should get a bow with a full rating of 70lbs. If you have any suggestions for me let me know. Ive always stuggled with speed growing up being i had cystic fibrosis. Im now 23 and had a double lung transplant and im healthy, but when I was younger I was really small and weak from the lung disease. I finally have a healthy body, and I want to get the most out of my bow. Ive taken many deer with the current setup over the last three years, but id love to be able to shoot past 30 with consistancy. Thank you for your time!

If you are comfortable with 70# go for it. There are many bows that provide great performance with your specs. If you like single cams, Mathews Prestige would be great choise. I think almost everyone that has bought Pse X-Force are more than satisfied with their bow. Hoyt Vulcan would be extremely attractive and probably the most secure choise of all. I shoot APA Black Mamba X1 (I have longer draw of 28,5" though). I love that bow. It is just pure pleasure to shoot. Everyone is talking about how low brace makes bows unforginving and difficult to shoot accurately. I'm not very experienced archer but I shoot my X1 at least as good as any bow out there. Apa makes extremely high quality bows and their customer service is outstanding.
Some also think that Black Mambas have harsh draw sycle but it's honestly far from it. Of cource you have to work for the speed, but the draw force curve of the bow is outstanding.
If you have a change to shoot one, do yourself a favor try it. I know that it may not be the bow for everyone, but I haven't heard anyone to be disapointed to Apa bows.

I dont really like mathews. I had a q-2 back in 2000 when they first came out. I never could get the bow to shoot good for me, no matter what rest combination I tried. When I got the hoyt, I was surprised at how well the bow handled. The two cam system made me nervous because at the time, everyone almost shot a one cam. Thats all that was ever talked about, one cam's. Things have changed since as we all know. Ill stick with a two cam. I took a look at the Mombas, and Ill keep them in mind. With a rating of I believe 370's, at a 26 inch draw and 70lbs, Im sure I could get close to 280's. I cant seem to get past an eqaulizer for the time being. I got to shoot a tribute last year and it was really smooth, and quite. The draw was about 2 inches longer than what I shoot, but I just shot it so that I could get a feel for the bowtech binary cams. Im all for the equalizers blazing speeds at a 60lb weight for my draw. Looking into them further on here there are alot of mixed emotions of the the cams jerking you back from the back wall of the cams. Some say no problems, some say it takes some getting use to. I guess I can ask all the questions I want, but until I shoot one I wont know how it feels for myself.

My advice....wait another month and see what the 2008 line ups have in them.....a lot of companies (like Hoyt I bet) will be bringing out new designs to try and catch PSE's X-Force.
If you need a bow now, look at Hoyt's Vulcan....it's a smooth shooting speedster that should get you into the 280's without a problem. I'm getting 272 out of my Trykon @ 27 inches (385 grain arrow), and the Vulcan is capable of much more.

I am a 25.5"DL and I can also pull #70 my arrows are 3-28 ACCS with 100gr pts weigh 350gr I have had about every speed bow made and my current choice is the X-Force set up in the short peg.My #70 one will spit a 350gr arrow out at 295fps.I also have a #60 one with the same 350gr acc shoots 275fps.I prefer the #60 it has more than enough energy to achive pass throughs and shoots my Hell Razor broadheads into tight groups out to 50yds.Other bows ive tried include the Prestige, Elite E-500, 07 Allegiance,06 Equalizer the X-Force is 10-15fps faster than any of them and quieter with less shock.

i personally just got a constitution which utilizes the same cams as the equalizer. i have a problem with creeping but if you set the post right when you roll into the valley it just stops and almost locks itself. it is a sweet shooter and i almost bought an equalizer myself for i am only a 27 to a 27.5 dl. where you would really feel the pull and yank on the equalizer is when you go to let down. if you let down on one it will just about yank your arm off but if you are comfortable with 70 you won't have a problem with this at 60 lbs and you will still shoot as fast as most bows with a 7 in bh with 70lbs. some of the speed bows would up with it at 60 aka the x-force but the x-7 is very close to the same speed, within a couple fps. just shoot them all and pick what you like best and go with it. i would recommend the equalizer just for the speed and shootability.

Try an Elite Synergy with Ice cams. You'll hover right at the 295/ 300 ft mark with 350 grain arrows and 70 lb limbs.

Butter smooth draw, no hand shock and great quality. I traded up from the Elite Ice for the extra draw weight, and it was a great choice. The Ice is a really good bow, but I think the Synergy/ Ice cam combo is better.

Remeber to shoot them all!!

Good luck.

For the short draw length shooter the Equalizer is the bow for you. You won't struggle with a 70# bow on a cold day in the tree and the draw curve for your situation is much better choice than the X-force. Shoot them all if you can , but I'll bet you come back to the Equalizer.

26 is fine for the PSE X Force, which will give a very good turn of speed at that length.

The Diablo is a BEAUTIFUL bow and the SD model goes all the way down to 24" @ 70#.

Great that you had the surgery and are recovering / recovered! If you don't have your health, you don't have much, that is for sure! Get the new bow and enjoy every minute.

I'm a short draw shooter (25.75"). I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Martin Slayer with Nitrous cams. You'll be hard pressed to get anything faster. But there is reason to suspect Martin will NOT have the Nitrous cams in '08, which isn't good for us short draw shooters. They are coming out with a "FireCat" that has hybrid cams and goes down to 26 inches. BUT, it's new so there are no guarantees that it will be any good at the shortest draws.

Bows (cams) that are designed for the shorter draw lengths generally perform significantly better than one's that aren't. A few years ago I tried some bows in their shortest draw slot and most of them were seriously slow.

But here are a couple that are built for short draws:
1) The Mathews Prestige gets a big thumbs up from me. It will be fast at your draw length. It is designed for shorter draws.
2) The Bowtec Equalizer is another bow designed for shorter draws. I know a couple of guys that have shot these bows REAL well. It also gets a thumbs up.

The PSE X-Force has a 26 inch draw slot. When I shot this bow in the "26 inch" slot I really think it was longer. I loved how it shot. Quiet and vibration free. This bow has a serious draw force curve and I definitely would shoot this bow at less draw weight than the other bows. The X-Force is so fast that I think at 66 lbs. it would as fast or faster than other bows at 70.

I really want to recommend the bows that I shoot, Martin Cougars with Nitrous cams, but I can't...........only because Martin may not make this bow in '08 with Nitrous cams. I shoot a 350 gr hunting arrow at 266-267 fps from 60 lbs. My 3D bow shoots the max allowable ASA speed (280 fps) at 57 lbs.

If you get a new bow definitely get one built for short draws..........

My .02
if you like the viper.....just get some 70# limbs for it
cheaper than a new bow you might not be happy with

Hi guys, thanks for all of your help on the topic. Im a huge fisherman and you dont get reviews on any fishing board nearly like I have got on archerytalk. You are an awesome community. Thus far, I have about a handful of bows to look at. Right now I like the equalizer, and the vulcan with the X-force just behind.
Im in NC right now.As i said before I had a lung transplant. I am healthy but ran into some problems back in the spring. Ive been in nc the last three months for treatment. I had the transplant in NC. Im from Indiana. Our deer season opened in Indiana today. The doctors decided to release me just last week to go home for bow season. I have to make the most out of it this year!. I had the transplant 3 1/2 years ago, and went from a 107% lung function to 50%. It harder to breath, but ill just have to take my time this season. Anyways, I cant wait to get home and hit the stand, and shoot some new bows from my dealer.
I dont want to start a new topic within this topic, but I guess I will. Have any of you shot the vaportrail limb driver? I looked at some topics about them, and they seem to have a strong following. Id like to hear the negatives of the rest, if there are any. And im still interested in any comments about getting an adult bow with 70lbs or short draw bows like the equalizer. Thanks.

If you use the "search" button at the top right of the screen, you will find numerous threads that have already discussed them. Try it. If you don't get the answer you're looking for then start a new thread.

Don't worry about the draw weight it is truly irrelevant. It's how the bow and you perform that matters. If you can shoot an arrow accurate and fast enough, the draw weight is meaningless.

If it's more important to tell your buddies that you shoot 70 lbs. then it doesn't matter how the bow performs. Set it where you are comfortable and tell them it's 70 lbs. whether it is or not.

Every fall studs come shoot at the shop range. In a few minutes they are finished shooting. I continue to shoot many more arrows practicing form. My 350 grain hunting arrow is traveling at 265 fps, it doesn't matter the draw weight because it's set so that I can shoot a lot of arrows practicing or easily shoot just one after I've been chilling in a treestand for 4 hours.

In reply, I am not so concerned with telling them Im shooting 70, and like you, I can usually shoot more arrows than them at 62. I usually outshoot 4 out of five of my friends. The friend I cant beat shoots a 70lb powertec, but he has been shooting for a long time. We are all shooting hoyts except for one that shoots a parker. This guy spends hours and hours of reading about gear, and is all talk around the shop. When it comes to the field, he isnt worth a sh*t. Its kinda of funny. I think ive really narrowed it down to a vulcan or equalizer, and I think ill wait another month or so to see what comes out. I cant thank you all enough for your imput. I value it greatly.
