I've been going since 2005 and have taken several nice bucks plus quite a few does. I was just wondering if anyone else on AT has been and what experience they had. It's a bow only 12,000 acre operation.

I'll add a few pics from the years and a video from this past year that I shot.

I looked at their site and they show a 73% rate of giving a hunter a shot at a 6pt or bigger deer. 34% success rate and another 21% decide to pass for another deer. 13% missed. So that means 3 out of every 4 hunters get their "chance" but only one in three get a buck.

Couple questions: Is a 6Pt the smallest deer you are allowed to shoot? Do most of the 27% of hunters who don't see a buck get at least a doe?? It would be pretty painful to spend a couple grand (not counting travel expenses & tip) and come home empty handed.

Gordon,

Those stats haven't changed in the 6 years I've been going. Most guys I have been in camp with have a chance at a legal buck, 6 point or bigger in a hunt. Most guys come back year after year, so shooting a 2 year old is not in the plans for most of them. Fred and the rest of the guys will tell you shoot the buck that makes you happy. As long as it has more than 6 points, you're good. I think the bucks taken has increased in the past couple of years, at least for the group of guys I go with. I have been 7 times in 6 years. I've taken 5 bucks 3.5 years of age or older and about 10 does since 2005. I have gone out and seen zero deer during a sit, but I'd be willing to bet you stand a better chance of seeing 12 than 0. Our group of 9 hunters, this past December, brought home 19 deer from a 3 day hunt. Four bucks and the rest does. Are we that lucky? I don't think so, but we are serious and make the most of our opportunities. If that means killing a doe, then so be it. On the hunt I went on in October (just to film for a friend of mine) it was a full moon, the end of a 2 month drought and high temps in the 80's. We still saw over 50 deer and shot 2 does on video in 3 days.

You can shoot up to 2 deer a day in Alabama. If you were to shoot 2 does on a morning hunt, you couldn't go that evening. I usually shoot the first doe I can on a morning hunt, unless a buck is around. Then in the evening I wait for a buck and will only shoot a doe at last light, if I'm sure a buck is not around. You will be amazed when deer come into the green field at 2:30 in the afternoon like they own the place. Bucks walk around alone and in groups just checking things out. It's like no other place I've hunted and I've hunted from Texas to Maryland on a lot of nice tracts of land and this place takes the cake.

Opportunities are what they are, but I'd be willing to bet most folks aren't ready when that time comes and either lie about it or make up excuses as to why they missed. I've got several videos I have shot up on my Youtube channel you can look at, if you want. http://www.youtube.com/user/pasinthrough?feature=mhum

I have a good reputation and wouldn't be talking up a place if it were less than what I am saying.

The hunting is outstanding and every other aspect is top notch. Great food, skinning shed, cooler / freezer, target range, laundry, food, open bar, did I tell you about the food? Chicken, Pork Chops, BBQ, Catfish and just about anything else you could want (not the place to go if you just started a diet).

Call Nan up and ask for some other references. See what they have to say.

Sorry to go on and on, but sometimes I just can't help myself...

Well,,,,,, I guess I am going back this year.

Waiting to hear back from Nan with what dates she has open and then pick out what works for me.

Haven't been since 92 but it was really nice back then,& from what I hear and have seen its better now since it went from gun & bow to all bow hunting.

Great place just to relax & enjoy yourself with no pressure.

Great to hear! I'm sure you'll have a blast! She might have a few slots in December but November might be nice when the acorns are still falling... Hard to know for sure, I just hope you have some cold weather to get the big boys up and moving! You're right about the no pressure! It's still like a vacation at a country club, except for bowhunters...

I got to go on a TV hunt 3 years ago at Enon Plantation, very fun experience. I had some good size deer (140-160") just out of range on multiple occasions. I must say them southern deer are very very smart, well a lot tougher than the Nebraska deer I'm used to hunting. I rattled in 18 bucks in one day during the rut in January. Jim and Fred are both good guys who know their stuff.
