My buddy is there and just told me an archer took an arrow in the head. My friend and his group helped him and carried him out. Not to sure how it happened yet.

That’s terrible. I was nervous when my buddy hit low on a target and the ground in front of the target was almost like a ramp the arrow went flying down the mountain in Vermont last year. Later on my nock 2 it misfired half way through the draw and my arrow went flying. I kept yelling to the group in front of us to make sure everyone was good even though I knew they were out of the way still had me nervous. Hope everything is okay with that guy.

Every time there is a thread topic on AT where a guy wants to know if it is 'safe' to shoot in their neighborhood backyard with a 'tall fence', I think about the potential of such things happening. Who knows when a release malfunctions or an errant shot ricochets off a hard surface and just 'takes off'. That the injured party may have wandered off the marked course is another unpredictable variable in a group shooting event. What a shame...but it is definitely a potential wherever arrows are being released. Prayers for all involved.

Surprised it took as long as it did for something like this to happen. Glad he is alive.

Year before last there was someone or some group moving around cones and targets at TAC in San Antonio that caused us to have a couple close calls snd eventually shut the event down temporarily, and last year a guy had a gnarly broken leg slipping on a rock on the UV course in Oklahoma. I’ve seen some other minor injuries, but relatively safe considering.

But to say I’ve been to 15-20 TACs and thats the extent of the near disasters I’ve seen Is kind of surprising. With the amount of people at each event shooting weapons with flying projectiles, there is inherently danger if you leave the course or arent overly cautious about the groups ahead of you.

For those of you who are praying for my Friend Luis, i greatly appreciate those prayers both for him and his family. He was life flight to Charleston and remains in ICU while the hospital was waiting on a ear nose throat specialist. The arrow pierced his skull missing the brain and came out behind his right eye. He will live but they are not certain about his vision in his right eye. Again, thank you to all who are praying and please continue the prayers.

We are here at TAC WV as well. Were on Prime course as this fellow was on Sitka. Talked to many of the vendors in the infield, here is their take:

A dude was bent over looking for an arrow that missed behind a big target.

His group walked away and called "clear," and left him behind, not knowing he was still there at the target.

He stood up and walked the wrong way, directly in front of another target as the group at the shooting stake were letting lose. Hit in the temple at 40ish yards.

Patient was stabilized (40 min) before he was life flighted out.

All second-hand, of course.

Will post more tomorrow.
What a tragedy! Thanks for the update! I’m setting up 3 courses this summer for TeamWhiskey and I’ve always worried about this sort of event! I hope he recovers! This is so deeply sad to me as a 3D course and TeamWhiskey course setter as it is always my fear that no matter how safe I set the course, some inexplicable event will hurt some innocent archer.
