Agreed!!! 💯 How does a person mistake a 3 foot tall bird, that has to have a beard, for a human being with or without camo clothing?

I had a good friend get shot in the back of the head, while walking and hen yelping, trying to locate a tom....with his 10 year old son at his side. The man that shot him was 68 and said, he thought he saw something and heard a turkey. My friend was LifeFlighted to the hospital with his son at his side. He ended up on permanent disability. This was on private land adjoining public land....and yes, the 68 year old man was trespassing.
That’s tragic and so common when I hear these stories. I just don’t get it. I get freak accidents happen like at TAC, but no game is worth not being 100% is the actually game you’re pursuing before pulling the trigger or selecting ‘fire’.

I don't know the details of this situation but here's my PSA...
1. If you missed the target, if it's not a 15 second search, just accept the loss and move on. It's TAC for goodness sake, there's a low percentage it survived anyway
2. If you are going to hunt for arrows, have someone block the target so it's obvious people are downrange behind it
3. Yell clear when you've cleared the area before the group behind shoots
4. Don't sky draw... at any point if you're release goes off it should be pointing at the target
5. Remind every shooter when they start the course to follow the pink ribbons so they know which way to go, and simply block the wrong directions (as I've seen at tac events I've attended)
6. No solo shooters... one person being lost is one thing, but a pair or larger isn't likely. If you're a single, pair up with people (you're just waiting at choke points anyway)

I agree with #3 whole heartedly, however we were at WV, and on the Sitka course (2 or 3 cones behind the guy who was shot), and there were several groups who would never yell clear when they had left the area. This happened numerous times, and even after mentioning it to them when we would catch up with them at another shooting station, theu still continted to not call out 90% of the time.

It would be the same issue/thing woth a flag or a light. Some people just won't do it.

Again common sense is lost. Mistaking a human for a turkey or not paying attention to what is behind a turkey has nothing to do with clothing choice.
I turkey hunt and have had to leave public land due to idiots.

That's just not true. I was on public land in 2022 having the worst season of my life. Finally got on a bird and got him working. He's coming in and putting on a show I'm just waiting on him to cross the 40 yard line but he never got there because unbeknownst to me there was another hunter in the area. He ended up taking the shot and killing that bird and we never knew each other was there. I never heard him call and never saw him before that point. My point being it's not always negligence sometimes it's just the camouflage works.

I enjoy 3D shoots but idk if I’ll go to another TAC. Just went to the one in VT last weekend. It was a **** show. Guys yelling clear literally after he took 3 steps from the target, multiple times. Another guy sky drew and sent one to the heavens. Another guy hit a tree 2 feet in front of him had it bounce back and almost hit the guy behind him. Course was very muddy. Not well marked with directions. IMO all targets should be shoot through not pull arrow and return down same path, makes the lines really stack up. And there was definitely one unsafe target where you shoot down hill and further down the hill maybe 100 yards there’s a walking path for a different target. Scary. They really need to set better nock times and stagger people out more based on group size.

What’s true for you is your experience, not mine. Two people can have different ‘truth's’ as we all experience and view life differently.

I hope Louis will heal and that everyone gets it worked out. It was a tragedy and I doubt we will hear how it happened for a while due to possible litigation . However as a participant I would very much like to know what happened so that I could be informed and how to avoid the same situation. TAC is a tough game and physically challenging as much as making a shot it is. You do get challenged. I did enjoy it and I felt safe even if perhaps I wasn’t . I felt it was a good event but I think the best idea for safety I heard that would be practical at such a large event was to wear blaze. Hopefully we will get a specific medical update on Louis health and details on what happened to make things safer.

Nothing new. I doubt we'll get any info any time soon. I know Luis is recovering and is switching to left-handed due to the vision loss in his right eye.
Didn't Dale Perry from Evolution give him his personal left hand Mathews Lift after this happened?

I am not certain, but he got a number of donations of equipment from a few different sources. That would be very cool if Dale stepped up and did that.
Dale said he had contacted him and was sending him the bow on a podcast not long after it happened. I don't remember which podcast, just the it was Dale and someone from AAE and they talked a lot about patents and his new thumb button release.
