Just get an hha dial and mount a low power optic. I use a red dot on an hha on my stealth nxt and a leupold vxr 1.25-4 on an hha on my sub-1. They both work great for hunting. I usually set the dial for 27 yards and I’m good to 30 yards without having to hold high or low. I went this route because I couldnt find a crossbow specific scope with decent glass especially in low light and they were too high of magnification for me. I dont shoot much past 40 yards for hunting so anything past 3 power is just too much.

I have given the Ravin adjustable mount some thought, but would rather avoid the need for adjusting a dial. I know its simple and most of the time you can just leave it locked on 20 yards as I hunted with a vertical bow for many years with an adjustable single pin sight, but would still rather avoid it if possible. I’m having trouble visualizing that Sam. If you switch from a 20 yard zero to a 30 yard zero, that would raise the apex of the trajectory and make it appear that the crossbow was shooting flatter, which would make you think it was faster, and thereby hit the poi higher.

And when you hit high you have to turn the magnification up higher to compensate.

Maybe I’m just looking at this wrong.

 

Get a Sig Sauer BDX scope and do the preset ranges 20-30-40-50 etc and you just choose which yardage mark to use and can use 2.5 thru 8 magnification without any changes in POI or use the rangefinder with it and just shoot the range and it sets the scope up with a single lighted dot at that distance.It sort of makes jack plates and the Optimizer obsolete.

 

I use the Hawke BRC2 app on my laptop, they have the Hawke X-ACT on my phone but rarely use it, I use the BRC2 all the time, don’t know if it’s still downloadable or if you can only get the X-ACT.

I can change the yardages in 1 yard to 10 yard increments (it goes even higher).

 

All great ideas, tpcollins I downloade the Hawke app it has great info, robertyb I have considered the Sig scope and may go that way but still would rather a more compact optic, and SamT I will have to experiment with the 30 yard zero. All great info Thank you

 

I think it should work as with the 30 yard zero the spacing between the top two hash marks which now represent 30 and 40 yard should be further apart than if they were representing 20 and 30 yards thus making the bow appear slower . Not sure if Im correct or if I explained that clearly

 

Thanks Sam, I have the X-ACT on my cell, and the BRC2 on my Mac. I’ve only used it with the XBR and Hawke doesn’t list that one.

I think I have that chart moved out of the screen so I’ll have to see if I can drag it back in.
