I'm looking to do a coyote hunt here soon, and was wondering if anybody has any experience in using predator calls, and if so, which ones work and which ones don't? If you have personal experience using one, wonderful! Let me know why you like it. I know Primo's makes some, but I'm sure there are others out there. Thanks in advance guys!

I mostly do coyote vocalizations. I just howl a couple of times every 5-8mins using a little bit different pitch. They get curious and come straight in. Prey sounds make them circle because they aren't sure what is doing the killing. I recommend a Verminator Tweety, a Primos Little Dog and a Primos Ki-Yi to start with. That Tweety works great on bobcats too. E-Callers work and take the focus off you but it's hard to broadcast the sound with them. I think using both is the best tactic. Good luck.

I had a foxpro that was stolen, great caller. My friend has the Alpha Dog from primos that is nice and way cheaper than the foxpro. The Turbo dog is a good bit less than the Alpha dog and we have done just as well with it as any of the more expensive ones.

I also have a foxpro firestorm and have used it quite successfully for three years. Two of my brothers have other models of foxpros that they also have used very successfully.
I can't comment on other electronic calls cause I have not seen them in use. I do think the forpro is an excellent call.

Foxpro is definitely the way to go if you're looking for great quality and customer service. Wildlife technologies makes nice electronic calls and has arguably the best sounds, and much simpler built than a Foxpro, but not as nice. They cost the same or more than most Foxpro models. I have a Fury and love it. Take advantage of vocals this time of year during breeding, but don't be afraid to use distresses of such sorts and pup distress.

Mouth calls for me, check out Carver Calls or Tony Tebbe, as well as a variety of other custom callmakers on predatormasters.com. Everyone and their brother has a foxpro these days, great callers. But alot of beginners are playing the same ol thing every time and yotes get call shy pretty quick. With mouth calls its much easier to switch things up, especially on a good open reed call. You can make howls, rabbit distress, bird distress, ki yi's, breeding whimpers, fawn distress etc all on the same couple calls. If you buy an electronic call at least be sure to change it up, different sounds different volume etc. Foxpro's can store a huge variety of sounds, so take advantage of it and every so often play an oddball sound.

I've used the ki yi with decent success, very reasonably priced call and sounds pretty good. Never used the hot dog but since its an open reed call it'll take a little more practice to make all the sounds its capable of. I've also read it takes a bit more air to blow but if you can get a good handle on it I'm sure it will call in plenty of critters for you. Seems to work for Randy Anderson lol

If you are trying to kill as many predators as you can, get an electronic call. I have killed a lot of coyotes in recent years and nothing compares to the ease of electronics. If your going out for the satisfaction of getting it done yourself, go with the mouth calls. I use a foxpro and would say I am 100 percent satisfied with it. That said, I have friends that have used other higher-end E-calls and they have done well with them. Just stay away from the cheaper ones. Sound quality, though it may matter more to me than a coyote, and volume just dont stack up in the many lower priced calls that I have seen and been around.

I hunt yote pretty often once deer and waterfowl are over. As for a good call you cant go wrong with a fox pro e-call, and as far as mouth calls go there are so many that work good I usually have an arsenal becasue what worked one day might not work the next. For example one of my best calls is actually a squeeker out of a dog toy, I found this out because my dog ripped apart a 99 cent dog toy and I noticed a small tube about 3 inchs long laying on the floor when I was picking up the stuffing I noticed it had a reed in it so I rinsed it off and blew into the reed and noticed it sounded just like a distress call, its great becasue I can take it down to a real low slow sound but it can also be high pitched and loud. You never know keep your eyes and mind open lol.

Best Predator Call ??

The one I have for sale in the classifieds! lol

Right now, as to e-callers, I have the Primos Turbo Dogg that I use when hunting by myself.
If with a partner I prefer mouth blown calls and my favorite is the open reed calls, in particular, the Critter Getter and the Verminator Tweety call, along with the Primos Howler.
Open reed calls don't freeze up like the closed reeds (Weems) and as said above I stay away from rabbit distress calls. Birds in distress, howling, or pups in distress. Another favorite is the "squealing hog". You don't hear this one much!!!
Good luck.

Fox Pro fury, 100 digital calls with fox bang is what I use. 24 bite.

I agree, that if you go with an electronic, don't go cheap. If that's the case, stick with mouth calls. I owned a primos hot dog and didn't like how much air it took. I now use a Dan Thompson red desert howler and really like it. His newer sweet water howler looks like it would be a little easier to blow, but I haven't used it. I used to like a tally-ho for distress sounds, but find myself using a tweety a lot more these days. Whatever you use, take the time to search out areas that haven't been called too hard and have fun.

I begin with a siren...if there are any yotes around they let lose just like a house dog. Doesn't spook em and i know if i'm in a good area w/o leaving the vehicle. After that I use whatever makes sense...Lightning Jack always works well. Crows too. Try and get birds over your head...the songdogs watch them! Draws yotes that are out of hearing distance. I use a FX5.

digital callers are awesome. before using them i picked up a cheap (10 dollar) flextone dying rabbit call, wailed on that and have called in many yotes. Wear good camo, and set up down wind from them, good luck and knock some down!
