I'm trying to choose a dovetail sight for my V3X 29" (main intended use is western hunting with potential future 3D comps for fun). I went to a shop tonight that carries Axcel, HHA, Spot Hogg, and Black Gold. There are a lot of options and I'm having a hard time finding succinct comparisons of them all.

My two favorites based on instinct alone were the Black Gold Dual Track and the Verdict 3 pin. They both have elev dials, and seemed light, simple, compact and high quality.

I can't figure out why the Dual Trac is $100 more ($379 vs $279 for Verdict 3 pin). Packaging said the elevation dial moves the pins independently on the Dual Trac, but they had bows setup with both sights, and they seemed to function the same to me. Care to explain, and/or share your experiences of either sight (or why you went with a different brand)? Thanks.

Okay...both are sliders, obviously. The Verdict 3 pin has 3 set pins and the housing moves down so the bottom pin becomes your floater to you maximum yardage which is set by a few factors until the housing is nearing your vanes upon release.
The Duel Track has two inline vertical pins. Top is fixed and the lower one moves up/down a bit to dial in where you want it to be...my gap is around 13 yards with my setup. So, at 20 yards using my top pin I can shoot to 33 yards and even pin gap to 40 without moving the elevation wheel. Once you've lowered the elevation wheel the indicators move along with it to shoot either indicator at the specific yardage. May seem difficult to understand. Hopefully you can get back to the shop and get hand on and ask some specific questions to the staff there to assist you in making your decision. Hope this bit of information helped ya. Maybe I confused myself. 😉

MBG are great sights, offer some custom work via their website, and have top notch CS, imo. HHA and Spot Hog are two other sight manufactures that off single & multi pin slider sights...including vertical multi pins as well. I can speak about MBG and HHA. The SH Triple Stack seems to be a popular sight as well as their other slider options. Another "duel pin" vertical sight is the RYZ from HHA. It's lower pin is fixed, unlike the MBG Duel Track. They're all great sights and each deserve a look if you're shopping. BTJ

When you’re saying Verdict is it just the Ascent Verdict or the Ascent Verdict Assault? They are 2 different options.

Ascent verdict = no micro adjust anywhere for axis, windage/elevation, or pins

Ascent verdict assault = micro adjust windage and elevation but you have no micro adjust for the pins

Dual Trac = micro adjust 1st axis, windage/elevation, and you get the pro pins

Hope that helps a little bit.

This does help a lot. Looking back at the pics I took it seems it's just the Accent Verdict. I guess the reduced price results from this more limited adjustability.

Before today, I'd have said two pins seemed too few. But the more I learn about the Dual Trac, the more it seems like I could really get used to using two pins for shots out to 40 without adjusting the knob, and then dialing the slider for everything beyond.

IMO the pro pins are worth the extra money, there is lot less black out. Especially if you are going with 0.19 or 0.10 pins. See pics below:

Whoa, thanks, that's awesome. Definitely a cleaner view on the pro pins. I get some weird pin/target blur and parallax issues, especially at 40 yds. Maybe this will help.

Grain...as you know sights can be expensive. It's always nice to support your local pro shop but don't hesitate to save some money up front to purchase from the classified section here. If it's something you think could work for you and your setup then cool, you saved some cash to use on other accessories, i.e., arrows. If it doesn't you can get most, if not all, of your money back in search of another. There's a MBG Duel track in the classified now.

I purchased the dual track so that I can set my second pin at whatever distance I wanted. In my case I set my bow up at 20 and 40 to gap shoot 30 yards. This way I didn’t have to dial my pins to any particular distance for those quick shot opportunities. Also, I like having a center post for my pins versus having them come in from the side. Less cloudy view. Both are great sights. Can’t go wrong, just weigh out your preferences.

I've had the dual trac on my v3x 29 for several months now and really like it overall. I like the sight picture provided by the pro pins and vertical pin orientation, and the micro adjust is so sweet. I'm having a couple issues I wondered if anyone has any perspectives on:
  1. The sight housing is extending too far to the rest side of the bow, i.e. toward my riser hand, so I have to crook my neck to get the peep to line up. However, if anything, windage needs to actually go further that direction to get the arrow placement correct. And, with the Epsilon rest and fixed quiver, there seems like no room to move any other component to change point of impact.
  2. I wanted to go 20 & 40 yds with my top and bottom pins. My second pin is as low as it can be adjusted, and it's just barely at 40...probably needs to go a bit lower honestly. I'm shooting at 65 lbs, which isn't heavy but isn't nothing, and don't have a particularly heavy arrow (don't know exact weight), so was surprised there wasn't a wider max distance between pins.
Any thoughts are much aappreciated. I haven't even put a tape on yet, been having too much fun just learning the bow and gapping.
