Next season I’m looking at having one of the platform type box blinds erected and I’ve been viewing ******* blinds this morning. Looking at their stands, they offer a 5’, 10’ and 15’ platform. I’ve hunted out of soft sided ground blinds for years, as well as my climber at 20’ in a tree. I understand why we desire to be higher when we’re in our tree stands, but is there much of a benefit to being on a 15’ platform as opposed to a 10’ platform when hunting from a box blind? I’m trying to figure out which height would be best for something such as the ******* blind so I’m looking for opinions from those with experience on hunting from platforms. Is it simply the higher your platform, the more distance you can see, the more you can see over immediate cover. Or is there something I’m missing?

My 2 cents. I have always hunted from treestands that were 20 foot or slightly higher and like the benefits of seeing farther and less likely to picked off and I deal with the worse shot angle.

I was looking to buy my wife a Muddy soft sided 360 blind this summer and of course wanted to go high because of my treestand experience. I ended up buying and setting up the blind with the 10 foot tower and its way different for me to hunt from. It feels like you are right on top of the animals and the deer are constantly staring at the blind, which drives me nuts and you can't move.

I don't have a lot of cover to hide the blind real well at that 10 foot height, so I just assumed it I got it out early enough they would get used to it. Here we are late season and the deer are still spooked by it especially the does. I see all the hunting shows where they sit in the wide open in their elevated blinds and the deer pay them no attention. That certainly is not what I have experienced this year.

I would base your decision on where you plan to set it. In hind sight with my limited cover situation I should have went with 5 feet high to better blend into my surroundings.

Being in a blind gives you the cover that you need so depending on high you need to get to see better is really, to me, the determining factor. The lower you can stay, I believe the better. 4-8 ft. This is one I have that is about 6ft with a Maverick Blind. Still need to add the cross members between the legs on the 2nd image

It depends entirely on the terrain for me. If there's a change in elevation you want to see over, then get the appropriate platform height to do so. Many of my blinds are in small tree rows where stands aren't an option. In most of those scenarios, 4 or 5' is all that's needed. Sometimes having the blind on the ground tucked up under a tree is the answer. Every location is a little different.

Mine are 8ft and have no real desire for them to be any taller.

I would prefer the 10 foot personally, I feel like you could most likely blend it in more.

This 100%. We got a Muddy Bull and it is 10' and it is perfect for where we have it. The previous stand in a tree in the same vicinity was like 21'.

We were wanting the 15' but figured we would try 10 and like i said it worked great. If you are going to shell out the money for a ******* I would akso look at Muddy. We compared and liked the Muddy better, paid just $1 for it over the same setup for a *******.

15 is better for visibility, shorter ones are easier to move! I build 8 foot towers and put them on trailers, gets them 10-12 feet.

In a permanent spot I would go 15, just make sure that it has the long vertical windows for close shots!
