Who here has gone on a buffalo hunt gun/bow? Where did you go? What was your experience like? How much did it cost? Pics?

your odds of drawing the free range tags are not good. real bad actually.
if your really wanting one to enter into pope and young look to british columbia, they have areas that are sanctioned by pope and young, and outfitters can get the tags.
bowhunter safari cosultants have those hunts neighborhood of $8000

just to hunt em, there are any number of ranches that have em, many are super easy, some not. i think there are some good ones in colorado where it is a hunt to get your animal. also check the custer state park hunt in south dakota. like i said, there are tons of places you can shoot one, but often it isnt a hunt, more a meat shoot.

i shot mine a few years back, it wasnt a hunt in my book, but i did kill it with one arrow, and got a lot of GREAT meat, probably the best meat there is. ill do it again one day, hopefully both on a ranch where it is a hunt, and if i ever draw a tag to hunt em in arizona (from what ive read on how chucks hunts where, i think it would be a blast).

Several guys here

Have came to Bow Safari in Coalgate, Ok from Alaska.

They told me its was the best value they could find.

Might be worth looking into. Never been there myself. Have heard good things.

Sorry, But the land Cotty hunted is definately fenced. There are no free ranging hunts in Colorado. I witnessed one of the "hunts". Its a meat hunt. You pay a fee to the rancher and kill one of his hay fed buffalo. Nobody goes home without their animal. Very few hunts make it past noon. Its one day hunt. I have nothing against killing a buffalo for meat or trophy. i just don't believe in calling it a hunt. I save that term for wild elk, deer, etc.... Bill

Got mine here in Ak

I shot one out of Delta Junction AK. I thought it was going to be an easy hunt. Just find them walk up and shootem. Well they have been hunted here since the 50's or 60's and they have learned a few things since then. Finally after 5 days of chasing them around I'm driving down a dirt road late one evening and herd of I'd say 100 comes running across the road in front of me and they stop out in a field about 200 yrds. So I get out and I'm trying to pick out a bison but they are too grouped up. Finally one seperates and I take the shot. It seemed like a good shot so I wait 5 or 10min( and now it's dark out) and start walking out there to see if I can find it, when all of a sudden I here this rumbling and I can feel the earth shake, suddenly I see this herd of bison about 50 ft coming at me at full charge and I froze. Then all of a sudden all went quiet and this huge cloud of dust envelopes me, and when it clears all I can see is horns, eyes and big black noses with steam coming out of them with every breath, about 15 ft in front of me. I'm not sure how long we all stood there that night, but it seemed like 10 min. It might of been 10 sec, time kind of froze along with my whole body. Well eventually I slowly turned around and got back to my jeep. I sat in my vehicle for a fews seconds gathering my wits when I got pissed at being run off by these beast. So I start up my vehicle and did my own little stampede. I probably was doing 40mph when got within 100ft of them still standing there lined up like some army from hell. I was just about to loose this little game of chicken when they broke up and ran. Come to find out they had taken off when I'd made the shot but had not gone that far and I reckon they came back when they realized they had lost one of the herd and came back to protect him from me, cause it was laying not far behind where they had stopped.
