So I have been planning on an OTC elk hunt for years. this was going to be the year that it was going to happen. With the changes to the system that is not in jeopardy but I am going to go on as if it is a thing. I have 1 point in the draw system.

I am a midwest whitetail guy. I have been working hard to get back in shape for a couple of years after a near death life support from the covid stuff. so that should be good to go.

I am completely green to west hunting but have been working hard to learn. I just got onx and its confusing things more as I introduced more variables to the mix. Is there anyone who could give tips to what I am looking at and how to best digital scout with it. Its like drinking water from a hose with all the information. I have watched a few videos but it doesnt help in narrowing down what I am looking at. For instance how can one tell on the app what is good elk habitat and how would one plan on getting there and hunting it.

Thanks guys. I wasn’t expecting so many responses. I haven’t gotten much work done and have been talking myself into applying for a unit and then talking myself back out of it.
I guess I just need to put something down and go for it.

Really good idea I had never heard of it before
Wilderness athlete has a product called altitude advantage. (Pills) work very well for high altitude huntin. Been usin for yrs.
Diamox works but need prescription and very costly.

I hope someone has a chance to look at this. I got drawn into unit 521. I have questions and I dont know who to ask or where to find the information so I will drop a few here.

anyone who wants to swap help on my hunt for Deer hunting or Detroit river walleye fishing let me know. I can definitely put you on some cool Michigan action.

1. Do I need to get any permits for camping or parking my car? Like a land access or something like that. I keep coming across camping permits and such. so I didnt know how to figure out if I needed that.

2. I have been doing tons of research into land access and motor vehicle access. I have been using tons of tools and I wonder are there roads that go through units that are motor vehicle access but only for like a gas company or something. I have been looking at trails or roads that lead to containers (looks like oil and gas). But those roads do not show up as Motor vehicle access. But are they?

3. How do I find the local wildlife biologist for my area? I cannot seem to find that information online so I could call.

4. Any way to find out how many tags were given out for my area? I could not find that

5. Where I am from I cannot just drive my vehicle or atv off road without a permit. Is any land that is not designated for motor vehicle off limits?

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. Trying to speed up my learning process and this helps.
My hunting partner has also flaked o me suddenly. No answer and no text back for a couple of weeks. So I am scrambling a bit on that front.

I am working really hard to get in shape. I’ve been lifting 3 days a week for 2yrs. I added running 2 miles a couple times a week as well.
I will be adding to this after baseball is done tucking a couple miles with a filled backpack as well. Trying to do my work to have a successful and fun hunt
