That will work. Thats the last part I need for my shop.

 

Hardest part is finding a straight piece of lumber that ain't bowed lol this piece is slightly bowed but not worried about it since it was free.

I am in th process of building one and was wondering if you could help me out a bit. On the shackle side, how are you going to attach that to a d-loop, scale, or turnbuckle? I was looking for a winch (or a strap that I can add to a winch) that has a flat shackle instead of the fat one. Sorry for the dumb question.

 

 

I used a larger one attached d loop to the winch and this one clipped on with a safety string around the main string incase the D loop breaks off. I used a test string as the safety rope.

You need a turnbuckle in there to fine tune the draw length. With that type of winch, it is one click to the next. The turnbuckle allows you to adjust in small increments.

 

That is exactly how I built mine. Simple and effective. I still want to plastikote the pipe though.

 

I added some sheets of foam from the crafts section of Walmart and duct tape lol it's ugly but everything is protected now. only issue is the thickness of the foam around the pipe probably has an affect on the DL reading now so I may need to adjust the yardstick or just make new marks on the board.

 

I don't worry about a safety string. I just nock an arrow and stand the customer in front of it.👍

 

Just write down "minus 1/8" or something like that in the board. I have something similar on my string jig to account for the flexing of the bolts I use.

 

What pipe do you use and ring? About how long do you make the board?

Do you have to hold the string to release tension on the winch? Or can you just reverse the direction and unwind it slowly?

 

I just made one and have been very happy with this winch. I threw on some amsteel line attached to a steel carbineer. The winch lets me wind and unwind without the clicks so I didn't need a turnbuckle to check things. The gear ratio is perfect - fast wind and unwind. Amazon.com

Perfect, that's what I was hoping to hear. Never used a hand winch like that so wasn't sure how they act. Thank you.
