I seen these things on one of those FB Reels. A short commercial for a clip-on dragonfly that allegedly keeps bugs away. The fishing videos didn't impress me, because I've never ran into an insect problem, while fishing on my kayak. Bugs don't get more than 15 or 20 feet off-shore or they're fish bait. :sneaky:

After looking up a few videos elsewhere (I have trust issues with FB videos), I found several bow hunters that were using them with good success. A 3-pack of these things are about $10 or $12, so I order a 3-pack. The theory behind the dragonflies is that they are predator bugs and other bugs are afraid of them and leave the area. Lately the deer flies and skeeters have been a royal pain, when I'm practicing in the backyard. The deer flies are annoyingly persistent and make it difficult to concentrate during any bow practice. So, I thought this would be a good testing ground.

I'm impressed!!! I never had 1 deer fly touch me, no skeeters or any other kind of flying bugs. (y) I was only using the red one. The other photo is just showing the other colors available. The slightest breeze makes the wings look like they're flying.

I appreciate the idea and that it seems to work, but I would assume deal with the bugs

I would probably kick my own ass if I wore those
(No offense😏)

I
Tell that bolded part to the black flies, lantern flies, and mayfly hatches that happen on the rivers around here :ROFLMAO:

I've had mayflies pile up close to a foot deep on any flat surface of my boat in just a few hours at night. It's actually been bad enough that they've shut down a pretty major highway due to visibility going over the one bridge that crosses the Susquehanna River.
I remember one summer they were so thick on the river bridge DOT had to get the snowplow out.

lol. Soak in permethrin just to be sure.

I saw some Hispanic guys who covered their hats with the vanilla scented car air fresheners. Don’t know if they worked or not to keep mosquitoes and bugs away
Some say dryer sheets work.

I live in Alaska, and I know people who swear by them, I must be the unlucky one.
I have heard a few people say that but I don't see how. I was at a draw hunt in SC around 96 or so and had the bug Tamer suit. It was hot when it's already hot in Sept. A buddy gave me his backup Thermocell and it was freakin' amazing. It was like bugs did not exist. I bought one on the ride home...........lol

I get worried about the fumes but as far working that's never been a thing. Do you start it up in advance? IOW it takes time to work. Also if the winds are high it blows away the stream. But from my experience the stream comes right back so it's still effective. If the winds are so high it doesn't work the bugs aren't bad.............lol

Are you laying it flat? Or hanging it? Hanging it will make it fail....it has to be flat to work. Best thing ever for hunting IMO. That and handwarmers have changes the way I hunt. I'd give my bow up for a spear before I stopped using those two things.

Many of you folks know I kill deer really close and I don't know if I'd want those things drawing attention too me wobbling around my head at 5 - 12 yards with a buck there?

Trying to pretend like you don't rock all 3 dragonflies every chance you get......

Hopefully, all 3 won't be necessary, but when I'm actually in a tree bow hunting, I may have to have all 3 posted around me in different areas. I know that 1 of them is all I have to use for deer flies, horse flies and other larger bugs. (y)
Mosquitoes may not be that smart to avoid the dragonflies, so I'll have to wait until the deer season hits to try them out.

The photo with all 3 was just to show the different colors available.

I agree Thermocells are the best thing, but they are hard to keep lit at higher altitudes. I wish they would make a high altitude version. I tried the high altitude mod myself and all I accomplished was ruining a brand new unit.

But dragon flies, they have the highest success of capture rate of any predator on the planet. If I remember correctly it's like 96%. Other insects should be afraid of them. They very rarely miss their target.

That may be my problem. Ive been wearing it on my hip or hanging it next to me when I practice.

I got this Flextail to try. Like a thermacell but electric and rechargeable. No fuel. Clip on the top, magnet and threaded hole on bottom. Built in light if you need it. Uses two smaller pads, one in each slot.

So i saw a few videos of this. I figured what the heck I've wasted money on dumber stuff. Popped a few in my garage, seems to slow them down. Took 1 to work and it sits in front of my food at lunch. So far they haven't landed. Few times the fly by but after a few minutes they dont come back. So far they are a winner

Wow I'm not a brand loyal guy at all........I have just had great luck with the Tcell. Does that Flextail work as well? Have you had a Tcell? If it does then I'll be getting on today............lol

I've been using a thermacell for the last few seasons here in south GA. Works well enough.

I got the Flextail for Christmas and haven't needed it yet. When archery season starts in September I'll be testing it out.
