How do I duck Hunt with a compound bow?

I have been invited to go to Arkansas on a duck hunt. I plan to use my bow. I called the wildlife offices of Arkansas and they said it was legal to shoot the ducks once they landed on water. We are hoping they will land about 25-35 yards from us. I am planning on using the cheapest arrows I can find. I have heard of people setting up a hunting blind on land and hunting over the decoys in the water.

So, does anyone have any experience with this?

Will a bow fishing reel allow me to retrieve my arrows? someone said carbon arrows would float on top of the water for easy retrieval.
Once an arrow is wet, will it fly the same? I will be using Blazer vanes.

What broadheads?

Any ideas?

Youtube is your friend. Are you going to be hunting timber like these guys? I wouldn't use a bow fishing rig. You are going to have to shoot out to 20-30 yards and I would think the line would screw up your accuracy to much. I don't think I would use a broadhead either, not sure what I would use but I don't think you need a broadhead.

I have goose hunted with a bow and shot one once with a rocket miniblaster. It is a mechanical head. Just shot my turkey huntin set up of Carbon Express 350 Selects fitted with those miniblasters. Carbon arrows float and are easy to retrieve. The wind will blow enough to push the arrows to the downwind side of pond. As for flight I notice no difference when wet. Only other tip is aim small. Good luck

I say use a bow fishing rig. Hit them and they take off! Duck fishing sounds like a up and coming sport to me!

What about a judo tip or something similar? Only thing I would be worried about is dogs retrieving the bird with a sharp broadhead possibly sticking out if it.

U got a hell of a duck hole if u plan on bagging a limit of ducks with a bow.. Plus 20-30 yards at a moving target that's half of it actual body size(other half under water)..
I'd just take a 12 guage and leave the stick and string at home but that's just
me..
Good luck

I appreciate all of the input. As a twice convicted felon, I can only bow hunt, no firearms for me.

I do plan to hunt away from everyone else so the dogs do not bite my arrows. The cheapest carbon arrows I can find are the Carbon Raiders at Dicks (They are the Beman ICS arrows). And they do float. The kids and I put one in the tub overnight and it was still floating this morning with a 100 grain field tip on it. There will be a canoe I can use to retrieve my ducks and arrows.

I will check out the different broadheads you guys suggested. I hunt deer with Rage, but that might be too pricey for this trip.

As far as hunting in the Timber, we are not going to be able to go there this year, maybe next year. We will be on private property in Southern Arkansas.

Any more tips will be appreciated.

If it all works out, I'll post what I learned on AT!

G5 makes a great small game head that would be perfect for ducks. They are a little spendy though. Check out the thread where a guy made some home-made small game heads. He used a wing nut and a bolt. He eventually filed the wing nut to make it sharp. I made one like it and it flew great.
