DYI Garage Backstop

Thought I would share the backstop I recently built in my garage. I really wanted to be able to practice my form without having to drive all the way to the range and my yard is too small and too close to neighbors. I also park two cars in the garage at all times so I had to build something as compact as possible. After searching the internet for options I came up with the following.

First I got some 3/4 inch plywood and mounted it to the wall with a 2x6.

Next I bought 6 sheets of 2x2 1 inch foamular and attached it to the plywood. I also attached a 3/4 inch flange to the 2x6 so I could hand my target from a piece of steel pipe that I can remove.

Lastly, I hung a 3/4 inch stall mat from tractor supply and hung my target from a 3/4 inch x 24 inch steel pipe that I drilled a hole through to hang the target from.

I decided to be bold and test it out and fired one shot. I have a 29 inch draw at 70 lbs and I was shooting a 430ish grain arrow. It went through the stall mat by about 3 inches but it slowed the arrow down enough that it couldn't make it through the foamular and plywood. I did not even attempt to save the arrow because it was in there pretty deep but at lighter weights you might be able to get it out. If you are short on space and need something in your garage this should get the job done for most.

I think it definitely would if I put a few inches of space between them and possibly if I stacked them. My main concern was protecting what's behind the wall but I didn't want to shoot straight into stacked plywood. The arrows I use are old arrows I'll never use again so I don't care at all about snapping them off and throwing them away.

Lol it's not that big. I doubt I'll ever hit it but I try random changes in form so there is a chance I mess up terribly one day and miss. I don't know what all is behind that wall so better safe than sorry.
