Freezing Low on Target?

Buddy has problem freezing below target and can't get the pin back up. I know it's target panic, so what's a good cure?

Draw back with bow arm extended and try to draw with pin "on target" and if it is slightly off go above the bullseye and let gravity bring the pin down and NOT up......I use to have that problem and its definitely TP.....I use to draw back on target and then the bow arm would drop the pin below the target and I couldn't raise it back for the life of me. I now draw on target as best as I can, let the pin float around the X and concentrate on the X and the arrow will go there. Tell him to come down, not up but mainly draw on target and keep it there........

Another thing to tell him is......draw back directly on target and let down......do it 5 times before he starts shooting....That drawing back and letting down will help him alot to stay on target and not fall below and freeze up. Coming up like that encourages "jerking at the trigger" when the pin comes close to the target.....

my fix for this was to not look at the pin. if the pin is in focus, i knew i would lock. so I focused on something past the target... then looked at the target... at the 'X' and let the fuzzy pin float into view... if the pin went into focus i'd either release (off-target and practice form) or i'd draw-down and start over.

A long enough process but it worked.

Is his release side shoulder high? Elbow above the arrow? Sometimes it not a panic issue at all...sometimes it a mechanics issue. With the release side shoulder up, it can force the bow arm down. May very well not be an aiming problem at all.

Might not be target panic.

Try running his draw a half-inch shorter. If his DL is too long, he may have an issue with not being able to pull into the stops hard enough to correct the drop. I had an issue with this and shortening my DL helped greatly with my hold (sight picture movement and corrective actions).

I have a similar problem except I am holding right of target and can't move left here's what I do when this happens.I draw the bow and tell myself to "buck the F up and hit the bullseye you stupid azz you are not standing out here to practice how to Fng miss so hit the stupid Fng thing" this is what I say to myself and it works for me.It also seems to help if I change up the targets I don't enjoy shooting dots on paper so I will shoot the 3D target or ballons, cans ,dip cans, what ever I can to stay focused.

I used the blank bale method and worked on my form with a surprise release. It took me 2 months but it has cured me of TP and that was 6 yrs. ago.I was freezing low on the target also.I rented a video called Idiot Proof Archery by Bernie Pellerite and this definitely helped me beat TP.I got my target panic from shooting video scenarios in a winter league!

I have friend that had the same issue and we tried everything allready posted.what worked for him was taking 1/2 a turn out of his lower limb bolt and retuning his bow,had to adjust his nocking point .sounds crazy but he has been shooting lights out every since.only take a second to try, just back out the lower limb bolt and have him draw and aim .if he has no problem aiming then a little retuning and he is set.

simple things should be done first,, a slight change is stance can change it without any other changes, a little more difficult to do but very effective,, have him sight in where the target sits on the pin, not where the pin covers the target,, if he's locking up low this can be a simple solution also,,,

Move target lower where he's freezing. Then they'll be freezing right in the middle.
Don't try so hard to aim. Shoot with a similar mindset as throwing a ball. You can throw a ball and hit a target. Without really thinking about aiming the ball.

I think he is focusing to much on his pin. Start close and just have 100% focus on what you want to hit. I know when I shoot 3d if I switch my focus to my pin it immidiatley drops outs. Has to get used to trusting the float and ignoring the pin. just 100% focus on what he wants to hit. somehow it usually magically goes right there.

I had this problem for quite a while. I bought a hinge and used it for 6 weeks shooting 4-5 times a week, the problem went away. Every once in a while I catch my self holding low, and when I do I break out the hinge and shoot about 50 arrows then go back to my regular release. Don't kid your self, its target panic!!
