Heater body suits, if you have one or used one.
Heater Body vs. Artic Shield vs. IWOM

And, do they work and how practical - they are not cheap.

HBS is nice but can be tough to get into in a small treestand, particularly your right foot. It seems to get snagged going into the leg. Its warm though once you get it on. Im thinking about trying an IWOM myself. It seems like it would be more user friendly in a treestand.

I got a WarmBag several years ago before they closed their doors. It is awesome, but the new IWOM I saw on youtube looks better. I like how it deploys the bottom section and zips up so cleanly when on stand. The HBS I didn't like. I read that back in WWII our guys would turn their sleeping bags upside down, cut a hole in the bottom to put their heads through & a couple slits in the sides to put their arms through to keep warm while moving around in the winter months.

Yep, very warm, but a royal pain to unzip and get out of the top section to shoot your bow was a loser for me. Hunting in an enclosed blind so those movements would be hidden wouldn't be to bad. But then again, in a blind I have a heater going!

My opinion;

..........zippers......warmth. ..........windproof.....waterproof....quietness...price..... .ease of use...hood....orange
HBS......5...............5.... ...................1.......... .....0...............5........ ......1................5...... .....0........... 0

AS suit..4...............5....... ...............5.............. ...5...............4.......... ....5................4........ ...5............5
*higher number is better

HBS=22
AS suit= 42

I used both over the last weekend.

The HBS zippers are quitter and smoother.
I had a lot of problems zipping up the AS. Might be my body type or something but the zipper goes way up
into my crotch and bunches up...I fumbled around for about 5 minutes trying to zip it the first time.

They are equally warm. I have had the top of my thighs get a little chilled in the HBS when they press tight against the material, but not that big of a problem.

HBS-$350
AS-$175 on sale

I have both the IWOM XT and the HBS. I use the IWOM in a treestand because I can wear it in parka mode and climb in then whip the legas out and I am good. I use the HBS in a blind or shooting house. Both equally warm. Both great suits. I would love to use the HBS in a stand but like mentioned it is difficult to get your legs in and out of at times. I love the nothing on my arms. I wear a compression sleeve on the IWOM just to be sure. I shoot a short brace height bow. I am always concern but but have not had an issue. So. Other quality suit. Both keep.you warm. Both do what they are intended to do. I use both and love both! Would like to combine the 2 and have a perfect suit! Never tried the AS suit.

I've used the HBS and artic shield. Both work well and keep you warm. The only caveat is if you check your phone often you are constantly letting the heat out and defeating the purpose. If you don't then I recommend either. If you do I would say go for a traditional jacket and bibs. Kind of a strange input but that's based on experience as a dad with young children and job that keeps me on call with the phone/leash tied to me.

My son and I have HBS and love them... we have no problem doing all day sits when it's around 0 degrees out in the late season.

I wish the legs weren't separate, but that's my only complaint. I started dressing lighter and lighter and using my HBS more and more. Even when it's around 45 degrees or so. I'll go out with just a tshirt and a hoodie and I'm fine, and don't break a sweat walking in.

It also conceals a LOT of motion when you're using calls, etc and any little movements you might make if the deer is behind you.

I'm starting to think that it traps a lot of scent inside of it too, but don't have any proof.

It's saved me TONS of money on trying to layer up and buying heavy winter parkas, etc.

I only have experience with my IWOM and I love it. I have the lighter weight version. I like that I can remove the hood and use a hat instead.

The zippers aren't super quiet as others have said, but just yesterday I unzipped it and peed into my pee bottle inside the IWOM with a doe and a fawn about 40 yards in front of me and they didn't spook.

As it gets colder I do need to layer up under it. I wear a good base layer (ECWCS) and regular non insulated hunting pants and a wool shirt. That's fine to 30 degrees. Any colder and I start adding a vest or insulated pants.

It is an issue where you can catch the arm with the string. I usually just twist the sleeve as they suggest, but I'm thinking about adding a compression sleeve to make this not an issue.

I got mine as a "used" one and it was only $200. That's a crazy bargain. I'm thinking I'll buy the warmer version with more insulation and the non removable hood in the treestand friendly camo pattern to use for late season/gun hunting for next year.
