I'm looking for some good wool socks to help combat my problem of getting cold feet easily. Specifically, what are some wool socks you would recommend?

DarnTough and SmartWool as already mentioned. Don’t overlook socks made from bison or alpaca as well.

Also, think about more than just getting thicker better wool socks. Cold feet usually comes from sweating feet. Try changing your socks when you get in the stand or throughout the day as you get cold. Your boots could be holding moisture from the day before, swap pairs daily allowing boots to dry or use a boot dryer or stuffing them with newspaper helps. Sounds crazy but even using antiperspirant could help.

Just ideas I’ve worked through in a quest for warm feet...

This is correct...I learned this years ago...I found that my feet would freeze in insulated boots, 1200 gram, 400 gram, with wool socks without and so on. Well one day I don't remember why but I wore my un insulated neoprene boots with some thick socks in really cold weather and my feet never once got cold! I've worn them ever since and have always had warm feet... the insulated boots were overkill causing my feet to sweat and in turn get cold.

I have tons of wool socks. Darn tough, Lorpen, First Lite, farm to feet, nomad, and smart wool.

Darn tough seem to be made the best. I have the heavyweight hunter and they are great.

My smart wool only last a year before going threadbare and developing a hole. These were lighter weight.

Lorpen have great mid weight socks, but also durability issues. Seems like I only get a couple years out of a pair before they develop holes.

Farm to feet have been really great so far, but the seam is a little weird on a couple pair I have. Otherwise holding up awesome.

The nomad ones got a hole in them first time I wore them.

First lite are holding up well. Have only been wearing them this year so can’t comment on durability.

I’d say it’s a toss up Between the FL and darn tough socks for best performance. But they’re also the most expensive brands.

As others mentioned check the merino/poly ratio. Over 60% is good.

I prefer Darn Tough. They have a great selection, which all seem to work well, depending on the season or purpose.

Best yet is their guarantee (I think they still offer it) ... replacement if the sock ever develops a hole. Few years ago I developed a hole in a sock. Not sure but I may have nicked to when stalking without my boots. Called Darn Tough, texted a picture of the hole and had a new pair within a week. No questions. Other than that pair all of theirs have held up for miles.

I tried some F.I.T. socks about 7 years ago. Best hunting sock I have ever used. Merino wool inside, wool outside. I get the coldest feet in the world and these are the only socks I have found that works for me(with a proper fit boot). One of the biggest problems is ill fitting boots. Buy them at the very least a half size larger to a size larger than your normal shoe size.

I have about every thickness of Smartwool hunting socks made. Their heavier socks are very warm. Never tried the Darn Tough--my size is always sold out. Actually Bass Pro sells a very warm, good value, Redhead All-Purpose hunting sock, if you can find the thick ones in your size. I think Smartwool makes them. One of the few good values left at Bass Pro/Cabelas... I really miss the old Cabelas!
