Hated the chemical heated insoles, made me overly hot and would open my boots (loses of scent) but that gave more oxygen to the reaction which made it hotter in the boot. Really not a fan. Now, my wife has been using Toe heaters, puts them in the toe of the boot and she is happy with her sweaty feet.

I have tried battery operated and USB powered socks. I like that I could turn them off, but I worry about them since I cross creeks and worry about water and electricity. Once again, I don't like sweaty feet, and it did help with this, but I found that I turned them off about the time the sun got on my boots.

Now. I work hard at keeping my feet warm and not sweaty. I have a few dozen socks of various thickness, weave, and materials. I wear what is required to handle the warmest part of my weather forecast. Walking in and out makes my own extra heat. So, for between the walk and the warmth I bring either artic shields boot covers, flannel boot covers, a blanket, or just suffer through it.

Thats close to what I do. I have three pairs of Lacrosse Burley Sport boots, no insulation, 1000 gram, and 1500 gram rubber/neoprene boots. I also have three different weights of merino wool socks. I then try to pick the right combo to keep my feet warm without overheating and get a sweat on.
If I’m going to be more than a few hours or a long walk in I carry an extra pair of socks.
Since I started that it’s a rare occasion when my feet get cold but I remember dealing with cold feet for many years before I started doing that.

 

Moblie warming has socks you can control the heat from your phone. I have their vest and it works well!

You need to try the artic shield boot covers. When I get to my stand I put them on and throw a hand warmer down in them.

 

Socks by a long shot. I know everyone is different. The insoles didn’t work at a
all for me. Boot blankets either. The heated socks can be low or hot. The others are what they are. I’ve wasted so much money the last 10 years trying to keep my feet warm. Wish I’d bought the socks a long time ago. No more cold feet for me. And I can wear lighter boots as well.

 

What brand of socks do you have?

 

I’ve tried the Artic Shields and the other ones. Ice Breakers I believe. And I have a loose fitting boot that I wear. A sock liner then a nice wool sock.

Anybody else that has used both? The heated insoles look nice but bulky. The sock that’s controlled with my phone sounds pretty sweet also.

 

an oversized pair of wool socks and hand warmers. Sit down, pull the socks over your boots and stuff a handwarmer on the toe. I get really cold feet, this has worked as well as boot suits or arctic shield covers for me, and probably 1/8 the weight.

Socks over insoles work much better for me I use Snow deer not remote controlled but have been working for me 3 heat settings as well,

 

I have the Thermacell Insoles and not impressed with them.

I have both the new and old style.

 

Heated socks sound like a god send, my feet always get cold when sitting. Definitely trying them out.

I have the insoles and they work for me. 3 temp settings and a remote. I haven't tried the socks because (IMO) I like the insole idea better. I don't have to wash them and just leave the insoles in a pair of oversized boots. If it's cold I wear those if not I have other pairs of boots for that.

2 things I have noticed. I think if you go with a really heavy sock it actually is colder with the insoles. They don't get chemical hand warmer hot so the thinner socks work well and you don't sweat walking in with thinner socks. I found that out a year or so ago when I left my socks at home and had to go barefoot in my hunting boots......I was just as warm or maybe warmer!

Like I said I had socks a LONG time ago and they were a hassle to wash because of the batteries and all but maybe they are better now? I'm happy enough with the insoles I'm not looking and I get cold easy. The other mistake people make is they think they will feel like hand warmers and they do NOT. It's just enough to keep the chill off...….if you turn them on after your feet get cold it's WAY to late then.

You turn them on after you sit down and your feet are warm but not sweaty and they help maintain that. If you want the feeling of having your feet propped up by the fire you'll HATE these...…….lol. Maybe the socks are better for that? But IMHO there are pro's & con's to both.

I don't want to own multi pairs of socks and have to wash them when I get home at night to wear the next morning. Or use them on a trip where I have no washer.

 

I wear mine over a pair of lighter socks. Wash them maybe every 2 weeks by hand. Hang to dry. Ready in the morning. No washer or dryer needed. But if the insoles work for you stick with them. We’re all different and need to find what works best for you.

 

I have heated socks and I like them but I will tell you this. My feet have always gotten cold, no matter what. I had the hardest time for years. I started experimenting and found a solution. I use arctic shield boot covers with a stick on toastie toe on top of my boots. This is hands down the best thing I’ve come up with. Best of luck!

Thanks guys. I think I’m going to go with the socks. Wife wants a pair so it’s an easy sell to toss me in a pair also.
She has Renault’s (sp) and get white toes if it’s below about 55f so even down here in Georgia that’s a common occurrence.

 

The hunting industry is years behind the ski world. Sort like hunting industry has been yrs behind mountaineering industry for clothing .....but that’s another post.

Hotronics footbeds, from ski world, last longer and keep feet warmer than anything in hunting world. Like previous post noted, thinner socks work better with footbeds. Hotronics batteries last 8+ hrs even on 3rd of 4 heat settings.

The only problem I see with the hotronics is your stuck with the one boot you put them in. The socks can go in any boot.

 

I have neen using same pair of global vasion socks 4 yrs. have L / m / high settings. Never have to use boots over 800 gr insul.
Best thing can use n footwear. Never have to run them high than low setting
