Help for a newbee

The seed was planted, grew and I am a bonafied recurve owner. Now this is where you all may be able to help me. I have a very nice (1967-70) Bear Super Kodiak #45 lb/64". Got some arrows with feathers (a friend that shoots traditional shoots so I think spine and weight are good), a 3 finger tab (I shoot split) and I want to stay instinctive. I was showing improvement (didn't take much to improve :). I went out and bought a new flemish string and now it seems i'm all over the place when shooting. I was getting groups before and its just different now. I've read on here about twisting the string and changing nocking points something called tiller. Can someone explain where I should start "tuning" and how to proceed if the original set up doesn't work. Sorry for my ignorance, any help would be appreciated.

Yup, www.mowmaker.net is a good place to start. OL explains tuning as well as anyone. Your basic parameters are nocking point, brace height (string length) and degree of centershot. You can also play with arrow length and head weight, but I'm not a fan of that.

As far as the new string, FIRST AND FOREMOST - MAKE SURE IT'S DACRON, 12 strands should be about right. Things like VERY tight nock fit, if the string is too thick can also be problematic. Depending on your draw length, think about 1916s or 1816s, if you have a shorter draw/arrow length.

Now, that particular bow is crap. The 64" SKs were know to splinter, delaminate, twist, change color and even bite the shooter on the backside. DON'T SHOOT IT!

Me, being a really nice guy, I'll give you $50 for it, sight unseen. I hate seeing a new or retuning archer get hurt with a "bad" bow ...

Anybody think he bought that???

Viper1 out.

A thanks for the sites to explain what I was after. I spent the day changing my brace height from low to high and nock point extremes the same way. I found my sweet spot and was able to make the arrow do the things described (fishtail, porposing, etc.). I think I got a handle on this. I'm scary accurate out to 7 feet baby. Watch out!!!
