I don't know how I did it...
Not thinking I guess.
Yesterday I installed a Landslyde 5 pin.
Spent hours leveling it with a jury rigged OMP 3rd axis leveler plate and checked/adjusted the drop away with the OMP true center laser tool.

Shot 3 arrows from about 20ft. I was way low so I rolled the site down to get higher on the target.
Then it happened I wasn't thinking, forgot to nok an arrow and dry fired...
Geez I feel STOOPID!
It looks like the top cam may be bent to the left.
Tomorrow I'll probly take it to my local shop and have them look at it.
The bow is less than a year old. Diamond Deploy SB.

So did I ruin the bow, or do you think it's salvageable?
I shoot a Hoyt Carbon Spyder Turbo....and I was a newbie and didn't have my arrow totally fully nocked...and caused a Dry Fire..... it was fine but I wasn't shooting 70lbs or anything either. THEN, because I'm an idiot....I was, well, I wont even tell you what I was trying to do but, it had to do with draw length....I dry fired it AGAIN, but it was only at 53lbs draw weight....because I'm recovering from a paragliding accident and major shoulder surgery and reconstruction. Long story shot, my bow shop said it was find. So, I hope yours is too and this maybe gives you some hope.

I work with that problem all the time.
It is repairable. Will probably need at least one cam. Possibly a string and/or pair of cables if they were damaged in dry fire. Check the limbs for cracks or damage. That doesn't happen very often but pays to be careful.

That’s also happened to me… fortunately it was my back up bow that hadn’t shot in over a year… on night loading up the truck for next morning hunt grabbed it and pulled back and my string snapped… thought someone shot me… Learned to always check my string before I shoot… lucky only had to replace string and cam…

Usually, the cams are toast ! The question is was there also any limb damage. Let the shop figure out if the cost of the repair means you should just get a new bow. Good that you were not injured !

What mistake did you make that would have prevented the pin nocks failing?
well I suppose being more mindful when retrieving arrows. Inspecting the nocks more carefully. They are so small and the material is so thin that just a little crack or nick in the plastic can cause them to fail. After the second one blew up on me I stopped using them. Ive never had the problem again.

I derailed my Deploy while checking draw weight. Don’t ask me how but I will never forget the noise that it made. Destroyed both cams.

I don’t have a shop that’s close, so I called Bowtech and explained what happened, and that it was my fault. They gave me a RMA and had me ship the bow to them. Two new axles, cams, cables/string, one week, and $100-something later I had the bow back and working like new.

Give Bowtech a call, they’ll treat you right. I thought their price to repair was incredibly reasonable considering that it included cross-country shipping, and the turn-around was fast.
Thanks Red,
I called BowTech and they gave me an RMA. I Sent the bow on Monday and tracking shows they have it now.
I don't know about "ALL" the possible damage, but I'm pretty sure I noticed a bend in the top cam.
I guess I'll see what the total bill will be in the end. I will say, I was quite IMPRESSED with the telephone service I received. And I appreciate all the stories, anectdotes and helpful hints. I'll heed those as well.

That's amazing and good to hear

I'm shocked at how many bows suffered damage due to dry fires?!?! I had always heard that modern bows are way less susceptible to dry fire damage than older ones. I dry fired my old bow TWICE, once was my fault, and the other time the nock apparently was faulty and my arrow fell right off my string just as I was firing the bow. Both time, the strings naturally derailed, but the cams and everything else were perfectly fine.

Is my experience just an anomaly?

Well, I got the bow back in less than 2 weeks. BowTech replaced both cams and only charged me $90.00.
I haven't had a chance to get the bow back in action yet, but I'm certainly going to be a lot more careful!

My thanks to BowTech for their amazing fast service and fairness!
