Hi friends, I am a newbie of compound bow but do want to do bow hunting for a while. I bought a new bow and arrows, inserts, release and target yesterdy, the salesman just put a bunch of essential items together without too much explaination. After back home I used guerrila glue to put the inserts in and screw on the practise points, after several shots all 6 arrows tips stuck into the Hurrican 450 target, I tried and pull 3 of them out, 3 of them missed in the thick target bag, later I tried to glue again and shot again, I still met the same problem again and again. then I searched found the arrow shaft ID is .272, but on amazon I found most of are .244 inserts. Here are questions: 1, are all arrow ID different and how to find right inserts for them? 2, what happened to me is because the glue is not strong enough? or the target surface is too tight? or the inserts i bought is too small for the ID of the arrow shaft?

Different arrow models will have different ID and it is indeed important to have the proper insert. However, when you buy arrows, the proper inserts are generally included with them from the manufacturer. What brand/model or arrows do you have?

It could also be an improper glue, or improper prep before gluing. I like to scuff up the inside of the arrow with a wire brush and then clean it out well with denatured alcohol to make sure there is no dust or contaminants that can cause adhesion problems. Gorilla make several different types of glue. What kind of gorilla glue were you using?

Were the arrows difficult to pull out of the bag target? They should not be. Field points come in different sizes. If you have points that are too big for your arrow OD they will grab on the fabric and be really tough to pull out.

So, as you can see, we're going to need more information to really be able to help you. Is there a reason the shop didn't glue the inserts in for you? Usually when you buy arrows they shop will cut them to length and glue the inserts in free of charge.

fgignac said it all. Also the inserts should be a little tight when you install them. It's possible the glue didn't have enough time to dry and that's why they are pulling out. Can you post a photo for us

Great apprication for all above replies. I just ordered Gold Tip Grip Arrow Adhesive (10 Grams) from amazon, hope it works. The arrows are Maxima Red Badlands 350 hunting, ID as .272. I still cannot find the right size inserts for it. Unfortunately the cabela's sales did not explain everything or help me to glue the inserts, I think the inserts might be not fit into this arrow. attached are pics and arrow spec. Thanks again!

Like noted above, matching the insert to the inside diameter of the shaft is important. I perfer a snug fit, not hard, but snug...

Different, but near the same. I can't get pin bushings for one size arrow I use. Here, I buy over size CXL pin bushings, placing pin in my dremel tool and use super light emery paper to hone the diameter down to a snug fit.

Bentirons, it appears you have the Maxima Red SD arrows which have an ID of .203” according to the CX specs, not the diameters on the box which are OD.

You can get the appropriate inserts from a place like Lancaster. Easy enough to search their website. You want Carbon Express Half-out #3.

Lots of video on Youtube describing proper shaft preparation and insert installation.

Trying to figure out why Cabela's didn't glue them in for you. Did they at least cut them to size? The epoxy glue should work better for you, given you clean prep the shafts as advised above. Many of us use hot melt and I've yet to have one pull out. Any chance there is an acctual archery shop near you, i.e. not a Cabela's or big box store?

I always slide my inserts into the arrow shaft before putting glue on them to see if they fit perfect. There should be no rattle or sloppyness, they should slide in and fit perfect. But you don't want them to be to snug where you might put glue on it and get half way in and it stops and is now stuck.

Gold tip glue is good, it is a bottle of super glue and has always worked good for me. I also use lock tight super glue and gorilla super glue. The key with super glue is to open a fresh bottle when doing inserts, never use old glue.

All I every use is the Gold Tip glue. Works excellent. Tip, most home use it is only used occasionally. So after using it zip lock it and store it in the fridge. It will last longer. We even keep new unopened bottles in a fridge. Probably over kill on the new bottles but we buy them by the dozen bottles.
PS, be quick it set ups fast. Can be shot within miinutes.

I'm sorry you are having issues.
But, glad to see yet another example of why you should go to an actual pro shop.( I know, we all suck, greedy, crappy work, buy your own press and saw, blah, blah, blah)
Especially when you are new.

I use a 2 part epoxy for those types of inserts
Clean the inside of the shaft best you can now
Wait for it to dry/cure and you should be good to go.

Thanks to everyone's input. Here is what I learnt. I went to pro shop, pro shop said the inserts should come along with the arrow, they did not carry that brand, they also said cabela's should help me to cut the arrow shaft and glue the insert, suggest me to ask Cabela's. OR if I can find the right inserts, the pro shop can help me to cut and glue them too. I called cabela's customer services and confirmed the cutting and glue should been done at their store after I bought these items. Then I went back to Cabela's, another salesperson help me cut and glue all 6 arrows by opened another set of arrow box to get 3 inserts for my arrow. What I learnt are: 1, the inserts should come along with the arrow, 2, the arrow is .203 ID, the insert is SD half out insert; 3, they use special glue or super glue to adhere the inserts; 4, after cut the shaft they still did some cleaning prep before they apply glue; 5, I will wait for half day for everything dry out to use the arrow; 6, I bought some fix blade broadheads for later bow hunting season. I learnt a lot from here, thanks all for great inputs and knowledge sharing.

I don't know where the rest of the world comes from, but inserts of correct diameter and glues of today I'd shooting as soon as I screwed in the points. Yes, inside the shaft and insert cleaned as they should be.

Arrow ends cut correctly there is no need for squaring.....I haven't squared a arrow end in 18 years..........Exception was when I tested 3 different tools for squaring arrow ends. 2 of them are far back on the back of my work bench and another is in a bucket behind the seat in my truck.........
