When using one rope pulling double duty is there a point you are not connected?
Yes, and I know that is less than ideal. The entire change over is less than 20 seconds and I know it only takes one....

Basically, the change over takes place when I clip from my linemans loop to the tether. I do this once the stand is set in place locked in and I am standing on the platform, facing the tree. The ropeman/prussic stays attached to my left anchor point, the right anchor is unclipped from the lineman's loop and attached to the tether itself. The tether is raised and pulled tight to the tree, the left anchor is then moved from it's position to the center belay loop. If I have time I'll shoecase a short clip later.

My biggest piece of advice would be make sure to get a mechanical rope clamp (kong, ropeman1, etc.).
Being able to raise and lower yourself with one hand is easily worth the cost of one of them. Prusik knots are cool and all but I will never go back to one.

I currently have the Muddy linesman rope that came with my harness I got from them years ago. I got a Ropeman1 for it this season and love it. If you are going with the rope clamp route just make sure you rope is within spec of the clamp.

I had a Ropeman 1 on Predator rope and changed to a distel hitch on Oplux. Never going back to a mechanical..........cheaper, lighter, quieter, easy one-handed operation

Agreed, a ropeman is inferior to a tended/ micro pulley distel. Really no need for a ropeman period for bowhunting.

I use a prusik with the standard Muddy tree rope but I use a small paracord loop as a tender. Works great for one-handed operation. Seems even simpler than the distel but I haven’t tried it.

Lineman's belt is a valuable tool in the arsenal. Especially if you aren't a saddle guy. Not a fall arrest system- TRUE. It IS a fall prevention device though. Go hands free and still have three points of contact. At times its just nice to have the leverage it allows. Hanging stands- MUST. Use it WITH the safety line, not instead of.

I make my own. When I retire a tree safety line, it gets trimmed down and has a new life. Again- its not a load bearing fall restraint- so an older rope is just fine. I stick with a prussic and a small quick link to tend it for hands free tightening. The ropeman one is 50 bucks a guy just doesn't need to spend. Its nice though.

Another point That extra rope on you may be handy for self rescue if you find your self in a pickle during a climb in your harness. It can double as gear hanger in your tree, or a deer drag,

Some of the webbing ones are super light and packable, with a good adjustment device.

Looks great! The advantage of the distel is the ability to lengthen the rope under full load by lightly pressing on the top of the knot. The disadvantage is having to buy or make a bail out prussik cord.

ShakeandBake _ I've seen that and have been comparing it to building my own. But with the price they have on them I can't justify building my own. So probably going to pull the trigger on this today.
It’s actually a really good deal. To get a weight rated sewn eye done on oplux by iron street is about $25 plus a sterling 6mm prusik is $20 madrock biner $15 and a hunk of oplux around $20. I can’t see them making much money on the deal, probably just to get you looking at saddles on their site.

Pulled the trigger on the setup yesterday evening and opted for the 3 day shipping. Hoping it gets here in next couple of days. But after looking over the innerweb it was a deal I couldn't pass and I ordered an extra ****** too.

I don't want to sound like an uninformed jerk/idiot, but why is there such a focus on a lineman's belt? The lineman's isn't a fall arrest system...8-10' of a quality static line with quality ****** on one and an an adjustment knot/device (ART,RM,RG, etc..) to help you work with your hands is what I'd think we'd all be looking for....

I use the standard HSS tether with a ropeman1 and two Petzel Ange L *******...the rope is 10' and I daisy chain the rope to something no longer than maybe 2'. When I get settled the lineman's doubles as a tether for my RC harness. The Ange L's are 1.19oz and rated at their weakest point (minor axis strength) at 7kN (1574lbs).

Am I missing something?

Since there seems to be some very rope knowledgeable folks here, I am interested in the collective input....would it be better for me to use a dynamic line because my lineman's is pulling double duty as my tether?
Hi....a linemans belt will enable you to work setting stands in trees. I actually like using 2 when setting up stands....keep one draped over the shoulders until I set a stand and then put one above and then release the one below. I have a saddle and 2 safety harnesses which have the appropriate attachments but prefer the saddle when working. Different ways of doing things....but, most importantly, being safe as I do not want a fall from up above. Cheers!

Hello All,

I'm seeking knowledge on updating my HSS lineman's strap. As I'd like to speed up the process of hanging my lockon tree stands. While using the HSS lineman's strap is ok I'd like to step up. Only because I'd like to venture into the run and gun style of tree stand hanging.

So what brands of lineman's rope are you guys using. The one's I've had come up on searches are: Tythrd, Zook , Muddy, and Lone Wolf. Which of these brands are you guys using.

Thanks!!
