I can’t begin to tell you how many bows come into the local shop which have drop away timing incorrect, rest timing cords moving , terrible cam lean, bad timing, tiller way off, 3rd axis on sites bad, draw stops set incorrectly, strings and cables installEd poorly, center shot off and d loops crushing the nocks.

Most of these are from individuals who are home bow mechanics who are learning. Nothing wrong with doing your own mechanics but please realize you most likely will learn from your early mistakes.
In defense of the shops so many come in who think they know all That is to know about bow geometry and are argumentative from the onset.

Let’s be fair to both sides and learn from each other. To categorize most shops is detrimental for all.

Not my shop. My guy is older and wiser than most of these young guys who think they know it all. He has tuned bows for national champions. He only stocks what he believes in and offers advice only when asked. His service after the sale is always impeccable and very reasonably priced. My only problem is that he is an hour away, so I'm slowly accumulating tools and knowledge to work on my own bow.

I live in a rural area and my local shop has terrible customer service, if you are not one of the shop owners buddies there is a good chance you won’t even get acknowledged. Also, the shop has transitioned into a more gun focused shop and anything archery just gets put off. So, I now travel a couple of hours away to a shop that is friendly, knowledgeable, and has reasonable prices for their services.

Whenever I buy a brand new bow I use a pro shop just so I can shoot it before I buy. Other than that I don't use their services so can't complain. Archery only shops are hard to be successful in from my experience. I've worked in a couple during "the before season rush" for free trying to help friends. Both shops eventually closed. It takes a passion for the sport and patience with people for sure!

Spot on , in addition it also takes an area with a good customer base less than 40 miles away . You can’t pay rent, pay for inventory and pay employee when little money is coming in 8 months out of the year. It’s difficult in less populated areas.

Josh Jones is certainly a top notch bow tech, runs a very successful business and shares a ton of information for free.

If a thread started on AT about him, it should have been with RESPECT!
Josh Jones are we all supposed to know who he is?
state? city? town?

The great bow tech I know does not run a shop, says he is to busy working on bows to run a shop which is why he gets paid big bucks working at the shop

I'll agree that some shops can have guys that think their đź’© don't stink...but I guess I don't really catch the arrogant vibes from mfjj. I actually catch more arrogant vibes from his buddies he has on from time to time. I enjoy his videos and alot of his stuff on YouTube is quite educational.. especially for the less knowledgeable archers or archers getting into working and tuning their own equipment. I for one appreciate the time he takes to share information that I'm sure has taken years and years to learn. To each their own...folks tend to be negative about everything these days.
To add to that, since he's started doing more stuff with Tim, he appears to me to have relaxed a lot more and his interaction with Tim are less abrasive to me. I've never really considered Josh arrogant. But that's perhaps my personality. I'm one hell of an arrogant, unsubtle human. So I rarely find people arrogant that others find that way.
When I was in business a lot of my competitors would often ask how the hell I can get on with certain business owners that they really struggled to deal with. When in reality they were the people I enjoyed doing business with the most and found them super easy to deal with.

I wouldn't expect you to know who he is because I don't know you.
But, if you read any of the 250 some posts in this thread before you quoted mine you might have figured it out?

Even my post that you quoted pretty much spells it out...

Seems arrogance and elitist attitudes are just the norm for archery shop owners and workers now. I've been doing my own work for decades but these guys just assume they automatically know more than you or that you know nothing. My suggestion to all archers just learn to do things yourself as these shops are not worth the hassle. The blowhards running the shops are not as unique as they think they are. Dime a dozen.
most of the time the shop doesnt know half as much as you do..

He’s just trying to let you know that he’s better than you because he doesn’t know who someone is in 2023.

Ironic that his post history is full of posts about YouTube, content creators, the Bowmars, and THP.

He’s a 40 year old adult that cuts his hair into a Mohawk and inherited a bow shop. He hasn’t really accomplished anything in the archery world and admits that he doesn’t hunt very often. Still trying to figure out why people listen to him. I’ll take advice from you guys on the forum before him. If I’m wrong someone please correct me.
