My Initial Review of the ARC System Release

Folks in another thread wanted a review on this release.

For those unaware this release is not available in the US... but thanks to folks on AT, I found a way to order and have it shipped to me.

I took the release out of the package and tried it on my shot trainer and was immediately blown away!!!! The trigger bar and sear have roller bearings and is incredibly smooth. I made some preliminary adjustments with my shot trainer and hit the range. I was shooting my Peak 38 and Kill'n Stix Tournaments (23 series) as I'm preparing for a 4 event series sanctioned by USA Archery.

The initial/factory setting for trigger resistance was unbelievably light but shot the first 10 arrows with only the head length and trigger position adjusted. This was too light and it would fire as soon as I started getting "into" my back. This resulted in a few errant shots. I managed to keep them in the white... but dropped points are dropped points.

I made adjustments every couple shots to find my "sweet spot". Every adjustment provided repeatable results on the target.

I think I'm about 90% set up.... I'll do some more fine tuning over the next few days. Hopefully I am comfortable enough with it to shoot it at a FITA tourney next weekend. (but we'll see how Leagues go)

I ended up at 300/50x... I'm normally a 54-56x shooter but have a few 60x games in practice. (I'd have picked up a few more Xs with 27s)

I'm very excited to see what I can do once this release is fully adjusted... I haven't been excited about a release in a long time!!!

My only complaint about the release is the strap. Very stiff leather.... Those of you who served n the Military back when we had black boots, you know how stiff and uncomfortable the leather is. I suspect this release will be just like those boots.... uncomfortable as hell until fully "broken in"

I don't know that I would hunt with it but I'll cross that bridge next deer season...

I can't compare it to the releases you listed...I've been shooting the same index release for coming on 20 years....

You can definitely wrap your finger all the way around the trigger... In the picture, it is just laying across my palm... not strapped to my wrist.

The loop goes around this barrel:

What release have you been shooting for the last 20 years? I'm also curious about its shortest adjustment length of the ARC.
You are probably going to love that wrist strap once it breaks in. I made a strap for my rx1, stiff as heck at first but now that it has conformed to my wrist, it's by far the best strap I've ever used.
I've been shooting a TruFire Hardcore for coming up on 20 years.

I have it shortened about as far as it will go without cutting some of the threaded rod. There's plenty of adjustment to move the trigger itself forward and back to truly make it fit perfectly!!!!

Glad you got it delivered fast!

Don't forget you can rotate the head itself on the connecting rod to find the best angle, not just move the trigger. And you can adjust the length of the head on the rod as well.

The leather is stiff, I think everybody is using a tennis wristband under the leather to make it more comfortable. Or you can always order a custom something to change the original leather.

That's where I got the gross adjustment from... then moved the trigger itself to get it to where I wanted it...

Thanks again for the suggestion!!!! BTW, I think it took 4 days to get from the UK to the USA!!!!!

looks a bit fussy... and not really developed (open movement) for hunting.

but i'm sure someone will ...

UPDATE

I've been tinkering with this release now for coming on 3 months. I still love it!!!!

I did have to cut the threaded rod down a little (1/8") so I could get the position of the trigger in the right spot for the tension I wanted to shoot.

I took some softball glove conditioner to the wrist strap and it's much more comfortable now.

Since I've got it where I want it my scores are looking damn good.

Since December
  • Averaging 446/24x in my Vegas 450 League (shooting 23s)
  • 2 Podiums (Indoor FITA)
  • 4 Shoot offs
  • 2 Closest to Center wins

If you are looking for an index release for competition, THIS is one to consider!!!!

UPDATE

1) I'm still loving this release. It is hands down the best release I've ever shot!!!! I suspect it will be the last release I ever buy!!!!

2) After 4 treatments with baseball/softball glove conditioner, the strap is comfortable enough to shoot all day. (I'll update this thread again after a few 90* days with 80% humidity)

3) I made this release fit me perfectly and I'm POUNDING with this thing... I've won a few more local tourneys and finished tied for 9th in the old guy class USA Archery Indoor Nationals.
