Anyone have good suggestions on how to get my crossbow quiet? I have a Barnett Headhunter, and am looking for suggestions on what really works to make it quieter. I've ready a lot of reviews on cabelas, etc. but most of the products don't get great reviews. Any and all suggestions are much appreciated.

I pulled the Limbsaver Quads off my split limb PSE and they fit nicely on my Recruit limbs. I'm not sure if there's a lot that can be done without sacrificing some speed as a result. I'll just have to try it and see what works.

I have hunted with crossbows for decades, and I've never missed a deer from them "jumping" the loud crack. Do not worry about this -- the arrow will shoot thru the deer -- just concentrate on your shot and not the noise.

I had a Horton UltraLite that was fairly loud. I put a set of BowJax add-ons and it did reduce the noise a bit. It was a VERY EFFICIENT (AND LOUD) DEER KILLER.....never lost a buck with it.

You might not be able to do too much to make your existing crossbow quieter, but not all crossbows are created equal in terms of quietness. The thread per the below link clearly reflects this. It is apparent that some manufacturers are making real progress at designing quieter crossbows. It is no surprise that Mission (Mathews) is leading the way.

By definition, Sound is the result of vibration. For example, a tuning fork. The more efficient a bow or crossbow, the more energy that is transferred to an arrow, resulting in less energy lost to excess vibration, thus a quieter shot. For whatever level of excess vibration, it is a good thing to dampen it; so you are headed down the right path.
