I have a little problem, but it is a good problem to Have. My wife bought me a rangefinder for my birthday, I have been looking at them for a couple of years now and I thought that I had set my sights on the Nikon pro staff for $199.00 at Cabelas. Yesterday my wife surprises me with a birthday present and it is a NEW rangefinder...a Cabelas VLR (made bu Bushnell) This one cost around $249.00. Does anybody on here have any expirence with the new VLR from Cabelas??? I know from the last time that I looked at them the Nikon seemed to hold better on smaller objects and the Bushnells seemed to be a little jumpy and hard to hold...but this model was not available then. I am not sure weather to keep this one or take it back to get the Nikon that I have been looking at for awhile now??? I am going to be using this unit for Bowhunting Deer. Any advise would be greatly appericated. Thanks!

Rangefinder...Nikon or Cabelas VLR???
Nikon makes a great rangefinder and I think the 440 is on sale for $179.00 or so. You can always check Cabela's web site and read the reviews that people have on them. The reviews are usually under the product you highlight if there are any to read.
I pretty sure the bushnell is what my buddy was using at a 3d shoot last weekend. I had my Nikon 440.
Based on some of the wildly different readings that his was giving, I'd definately go with the Nikon - although his had a very cool fitted neoprene camo case...

Sounds like the Cabela's employee sold your wife on their name brand stuff. I would take it back and get the Nikon. I know a lot of people including myself that started out with Bushnell rangefinders, only to take them back due to something going wrong and finally getting a Nikon. I don't anyone who started out with a Nikon and has since gone to a Bushnell.
Thanks for all of the responses...It looks like a ride to Cabelas and an exchange. When I held the 2 of them side by side about a year ago it seemed like the Nikon was easier to hold on a smaller object and that's the first thing that I noticed about the Bushnell, that it was hard to hold on something.
