ok....i just recieved the new Martin Scepter 4 for review purposes......

now just to give you alittle background on myself.....i had shoulder surgery approx 25 years ago.....ya, when shoulder surgery wasnt so advanced as it is today....and my other shoulder has needed surgery for years...but because of the hard time i have had with the so called surgically repaired....i refuse to get it done.....and because of these bad shoulders....i have never really been able to shoot, hold, work with a longer ata bow.....for this reason, i have been telling PUG that perhaps im not the best person do a new review on such a bow....but PUG insisted...said bowtie....give it a honest test run and let us all know....

ok...so here is the results from my first test run.....the bow max's out at about 56 pounds......i have it set on 50 pounds exactly.....which is 3 turns backed out on each limb.....

the bow has the factory strings on it still...so all testing is done on this bow right out of box.....

i set the bow up with a doinker stabilizer 30 inches......a side stabilizer by AEP....

i have a copper john sight on it....with the BRITESITE XVIEW scope with the DY OPTICS 4x lens.....i have the CR peep installed on it...and a d-loop with BCY d-loop material.....as well as a BRITESITE PRO TUNER REST and all this was very easy to set up

the bow is exactly 43 1/2 inches ATA....the draw length is 28inches...set at 50 pounds with 14.2 pounds of hold weight.....

i used DarrinM's CARTER EVOLUTION release set at 17 pounds breaking weight....

i used CARBON EXPRESS xjammer arrows cut at 29 inches filled with 175grains in the front.....fletched with the quick spins......

keep in mind...i pieced this bow together today using equipment that i am not shooting on my RAZORX....i would have used a shorter stabilizer, different fletchings, and my own release set to a closer breaking weight to the bow

now...i shot about 8 arrows into the bail after installing the peep....and than took another 6 arrows to sight in.....

than i went ahead and shot a vegas round.....i ended up shooting a 295 with 18X's.....

i had a 8 and three 9's....all because i had to pull to get the release to go off...it is set too heavy for my liking....but i wanted to just get a round in with this bow.....

my findings while shooting this bow....the bow didnt feel like a longer ATA bow to me...i was able to draw and shoot approx 45-50 arrows through it and not have my shoulder hurting...

i honestly felt like i held this bow steadier than i do my own RAZORX that i have been shooting remarkable scores (for me anyway).....

the bow was very easy to setup and balance....i will fine tune this bow this weekend and plan on bringing it to MICHICKEN next weekend and use in the smackdown/sitdown.....

this bow is the change color bow....it has the new furious cams on it...i have the cable guard version.....the bow has virturally no kick after the shot what so ever....i normally wear a sling, but dont feel that i would need to with this bow...although i am going to order from Mike's slings a custom chameleon sling to match it....

my findings are.....i believe that MARTIN ARCHERY has lost this "test" bow....that i will be ordering new WINNERS CHOICE strings for it first thing monday......i believe that if you are on the bubble about longer ATA bows...this bow draws and feels like a bow that normally is 38-40 inches....

as of now, my shoulder isnt telling me that this bow is hard to hold or draw....and this bow is faster than the RAZOR X i have setup....

bottom line...i feel that i have found a bow that I can use either indoors or out ....as of this moment, i will be using this exact bow at MICHICKEN, LANCASTER, VEGAS, L'VILLE, PITT, and the ifaa field tourney in south florida this december.....as well as the gainsville ASA....

i dont know what else yall want to know about it....kitty is going to post up some pictures of the exact setup and way i shot it this evening....

i vote this bow 5 stars out of 5 stars.....cant wait to get WCCS and set my EVOLUTION up with it....as well as custom tune it with stabilizer and kicker....

and i am going to experiment with a couple DY POWERED OPTICS....

great bow...whatever the price range of it is....

Finally, someone that has both RazorX and S4. I presume your RazorX is also with Elite limbs? If so, how do you compare the valley and wall of these 2 bows/cam setups? Thanks

dado.....my razorx has the mag limbs.....but i will say this....although the my razor is shorter in ATA, the S4 doesnt appear to be a larger bow while im at draw.....

my razor has the tru arc cam setup on it...and i need a bow that has some rollover for my shoulders....and i will say this...my shoulders tell me if i have no letoff or generally letoff less than 80%.....

here is the odd part...my razor has the high letoff...and the S4 is 65% letoff...yet i could not tell the difference in feel .....

both the tru arc and furious cams have the draw stops that are built into the cams...so to me...the wall is very similar..i draw into the wall...anchor and pull for release with my evolution release...i can not tell much difference in walls or valley between the two bows i shot

ok...first of all...yall are like trying to stump me or what....im a driver...not a bowchief....

brace height on this bow is 8 1/16"

i have no idea what the ibo spec's are.....i drive...ask joelc or pug for specs:wink:

ok...i have a shawdowcat with fury cams on it....this bow has more of a rollover and has more of a cushion to the wall...the fury for me anyway, went hard on the roll and straight into a hard wall.....this bow has more of a easier rollover and cushion into the wall...i hope this helps..as like ive said...i drive em...im not much on the bowchief works...it took me two hours last night to put the cable slide on.....

The bow has a 305 IBO rating....... knowing Martin stuff, it's real.

From my understanding, the Furious cam is a hybrid between the old Fury cam and the Nitrous cam. There is a distinct valley, but the wall is hard. Tons of adjustability on the cam for drawlength....... which was the one large drawback of the old Fury cam.

And the colour........wow......... as one Martin insider recently told me, "I thought the old black nickel was sharp.. this new Chameleon colour is all over that"

Anyway you look at it..... the S4 is going to be a huge hit.

well eagle...this was supposed to be a "loaner/evalution" bow...that i was supposed to send back.....i told them i would...I LIED:wink:

this is a keeper...and i honestly had made my mind up before the bow got here..that i wouldnt really like a "big" bow like this ...but i was wrong...bow holds extremely still on draw...and has a very repeatable draw cycle......you my friend...would love this bow..and im sorry...as i had already in my mind thought...well...ill think the bow is nice...but not the bow for me...and told pug i was going to ship it off to you....well...dont be looking for brown anytime soon:wink:

LOL....... if you have a momentary lapse of judgement... you know where to ship it

I have no doubt the S4 is going to be the breakout target bow of the year for Martin.

Hold tight to that "demo" for I fear that you will be guarding it

OBT.. You've hurt me bad now...

My Mother-In-Law lives in Greenville, NC. You might force me to have to go visit my mother-in-law just so I can get a chance to come by the barn and see this beast up close... And by beast I don't mean the Mother-In-Law.. On second thought.. Maybe I do mean her when I speak of beasts...
