we last night my fiance finally said she wants a bow to just shoot around and go to the range with me for now and im happy as could be,now to figure out what bow to get her we looked at the mission line and we both really like them and i think its great how it has soo much adjustment in the weight and draw length, but we also looked at the diamonds which is fully set up and shes like them both,i was wondering if anyone has any input to help her out and pick a good bow for her to start out with,i dont have any experience with lower poundage bows or anything, thanks for any input guys

why not let her pick out HER bow? do you let her pick out your work shoes?

My wife showed SOME interest in it, but she still seems a bit distant about it. I am going to let her shoot my neighbors wifes bow which is set up almost perfect for her and let her try it.

If she likes it my archery budget may increase next year!

i have a short draw and was limited to my choices due to cost, i shot a couple diffrent bow and setteled on the heartbreaker, my gf started with a bear apprentice then upgraded to a diamond razoredge. imo they are both very good bows for the money. i would let her shoot a few and see what she likes best.

ok....lets look at how much enjoyment she would have if.....

you bought her a bow that:
is the wrong hand....right/left hand bow, left/right eye dominant archer
bow is too physically heavy
bow is too heavy of draw weight
bow is too long of a drawlength
she just plain doesnt like the bow at all for either looks or color or general feel

do ya REALLY think she's going to want to join you on the course when she just cant 'make it work'?

well, my issue is that guys that want to get their significant others started go out and buy the stuff that the guys prefer. big mistake.

if you want someone to feel good about their choices, let them make their decisions. let the salesmen do their job. your purpose in this venture? write the check/sign the card.

guys that work in shops can tell you endless nightmares of trying to do their job with a husband/boyfriend hangin over their shoulder. most always, the ending isnt that good.

take her to a few shops, let the sales guy/girl do their thing and you go out to the range and shoot.

Don't let him bother you. You have a legitimate question. My wife shoots the diamond edge and really likes it. She can pull it easily and it's light so she can shoot it without getting tired. Also not all bow shop owners are the brightest bulbs on the block so I'm not just going to let them talk my wife into something that she knows nothing about and then just go "sign the card". Good luck and go try out a bunch of bows.

I hope you realize that you have just alienated a lot of women reading this thread with your comment "girls generally don't know anything about bows". I have a suggestion, get your fiance to ask questions that she may have about getting into archery on the ArcheryTalkWomen Forum. You may be pleasantly surprised and she may learn a thing or two from other women archers. I'm pretty sure that we aren't into making degrading comments about people on that forum.

As far as "let the proshop guys tell her what she needs to know," I tried that. Noone thought to test my eye dominance and since I was "a girl who didn't know anything about bows," I didn't think about it either. We just ordered a bow to follow my handedness, and turns out I am cross-dominate. So I am now learning to shoot off hand; with a new bow.
With that said, the Razors Edge is great, I have had one for a little over a year, and it worked great for me. But after a while I felt like I needed a "real" bow.

Yeah you want a bow that has adjust ability, for someone new, both poundage and DL.....Get her involved with other women that shoot archery, friends, local club, and here on AT.....And don't let an archery shop, deal with her one on one, without you there....Make sure she has a person that knows what there talking about at the archery shop....good luck and have fun.......Oh and later on when she gets more established, and confident into archery, get her into 3-D shoots, my wife loves it, she will to......:darkbeer::darkbeer::darkbeer::wink:.....
