I am currently using 32 lb limbs, 33.5 on full draw. I plan to compete at National trials in my country is somewhere about february-march next year. I dont think it would be a good choice to increase poundage now and get used to it as I do not have enough time. What problems might I face with 33.5 lb limbs? Is the disadvantage minimal?

Yeah I am looking for people to build my team. I have a mentor for my form which is my former coach. I also have a mentor on equipment who I just met. Tried to contact earl but he is usually busy, not replying. Right now what I can do is use the internet, I ask a question here, a couple of minutes I have answers, and I confirm that with my mentors and other source of info. That's how I try to be efficient with what I have, can't have a mentor who is not always available

Shoot the heaviest draw weight (this is very important) that you can handle to the last arrow of the day, with some energy in reserve, without affecting your form. This gives you the cleanest release and least external influence on the arrow in flight. Assuming tuned equipment.

If you can handle only 33# at this time, then shoot that. Any disadvantages to a light weight you can handle are less than disadvantages to a weight you CAN’T handle.

I shot 70 meters with a 26 lb bow last year just fine. Your 32lb limbs are more than capable. You just will have to aim off a little more in the wind than someone with a higher draw weight would.

Draw weight is no indicator of skill. The only thing a higher draw grants you is the ability to not have to aim off as much. People will tell you its more forgiving but that's meaningless if you cant control that weight.

Stick to your 32lb limbs and hone your skills under them.

I remember a recent thread where 33# was recommended as a decent minimum weight for 70m (wouldn't you know, I can't seem to find that thread at the moment). It stuck in my memory since I'm currently working my way back up in weight after an injury, and am still well below 33#.

I'm happy to see rjbishop's experience of shooting 70m successfully with even lower weight - encourages me to head back outside that much sooner :)

33.5 lb on your finger is quite enough to hit 70 meters. My daughter has 31.5-32 lb on finger and has no problem to train on 70 meters. Her sight is at the bottom, but I assure you it is not bottom out, and the sight bar is all the way out, not close in.

It is about how well you can control the bow. You need to find right tune of your equipment though.

Im shooting 35lbs @30.5” with uukha ex1. Fat string (comfy).

I was actually able to get an awesome tune with some full length 690 REDLINES I dug out of an old box I had fletched with feathers. 100gn point total arrow weight 315gns. Still have room left and sight is all the way out. I can tell the feathers make a difference at 70 but I’m mostly using them for 18-50.
Redlines are old and larger diameter than most shafts today. You can shave 30-50 grains switching to vap and lighter points or upsepend on McKinney2 (not needed imo) For sure the feathers are too much drag at 70 so my sight marks would be improved just with different vanes.

I also have a 30lb setup with victory vap (spider vanes) that can get me on at 70 with no funny business;)

IMO and personal experience,
1) If you're an X10 slave (like me), 33lb dw otf is what I found to be the floor to allow 'scoring to my skill level' (meaning: [manage the draw weight in a semi-relaxed manner through the last scoring arrow] + [draw weight is enough to promote decent release/string rip through the fingers] + [acceptable X10 arrow speed/arc/wind aim-off at 70meters] ).

2) Dropping your draw weight to high 20's (whether by choice or necessity) will have consequences to the downside (lighter / less forgiving arrows, less forgiving release, the wind and distance gets bigger votes, lower scores than when you were in a taller gear) ... it is what it is
