Do any of you still shoot old compound bows? I have an old Bear Black Bear and a Browning Deluxe Nomad II that I still shoot regularly. They aren't the fastest bows in the world, but they seem to shoot smoother than todays bows. I also finger shoot both bows without sights. I was just curious if anyone else still loves to shoot these old work horses.

I had a Martin Cougar II & a Cougar Mag with e-cams during that time, open sights, overdraw, tab. Those aluminum arrows got shot a lot at 25, 30, 35 yards... 40+ yards they dropped unless downhill. Miss the wood inlay laminate limbs. They just couldn't figure out what parallel limbs and bigger more severe cams would do. You'd think somebody back then woulda looked at the riser, had a light bulb go off & figured it out. Bought that Cougar Mag new in box as a blem for $120, it came in the mail without a scratch.

I still shoot my Astros from time to time. I have a 1993 Dominator XL 48"ATA and a couple mid 80's wood limb Dominators at 44" , one in Stardust Purple and the other a chrome/black camo leaf pattern. Nobody made a better looking bow! When people talk about how smooth new bows shoot I laugh a bit as mine don't need $300 in stabilizers and dampeners to tame them, but I will admit I wish they had the same back wall as the newer bows.

I have some that go back to the late 70s and early 80s. My wall hangers. 25th Anniversary Jennings some where in the garage. Pearson Pro Staff 6000 6 wheeler. Shoots great for what it is. One of my wall hangers shoots pretty nice, dig the long "U" bolt guide rods. Sold one just like it, but metallic blue riser and white limbs (maxed at 37 pounds) and the girl shoots it really good.

I really like "old school" archery but these days I mainly hunt so while I don't use a peep, still shoot a rope release off the string :mg: use aluminum arrows :mg: :mg: and a start hunter blade rest one thing I can't do is shoot the older bows anymore. They are just as accurate but they are noisy, heavy, have tons of hand shock and much slower.......

Those things don't mean much at the range but in the woods it's simply too much to give up......even for me.

Yeah, 83-84 is when I had the Cougar Mag too. Seems like a long time ago, less hunters, snow during the late season... we were lucky, a different time. I've got a couple old Martins I picked up super cheap, a 45 lb Tiger & a LH 65-80 lb Lynx. The new bows are unbelievable and I think that archery technology has hit a plateau. $120 for a new Cougar Mag, fast forward to $1200 for a bare bow, pretty crazy.

1992--3 and 1996

I have two Bowman Accuriser2's (#45 and #65) with Barnsdale limbs and Wedel cams, one is the earlier production and the other is one of the last pieces from 90's.

The purple #45 I can shoot 12" arrows ;)
picking up occasionally some x10's from a scrap box my Olyimpic shooters at the club throwing in broken arrows...if I can cut them 12" I will reuse them (800 spine I believe)

I've put these aside about 2000 when I got myself a first OK archery bow.
