What's the verdict on this thing? From what I've read it can be awkward to load it onto the string but I've never seen a video of it in action to gauge how much of a problem this really is. I'm drawn to it because of its price point, can leave it hooked on d-loop, good size for smaller hands and nice trigger. Is it worth getting?

No, it is not.
I have one and have won many tournaments with it and it also served as the release in our hooter shooter for a long time.
Overall, it is just a very low level thumb trigger. It is not a double sear that has to be cocked like the good thumb triggers and the handle is very small and awkward.
You need to go to the classifieds and get a stan sx2 or sx3, they are some of the best ever made and you can find them for 120ish give or take. Another one that you can find decent is the tru ball incredible, the stan's and the incredible have been around for at least 10 years so you can find them floating around in the classifieds.

I used one for a few years and liked it. Closing the jaw is not difficult, I would press it against the nock and could attach it without looking. I've been using a too simple recently, cant say that I shoot any better than when I used the sns.

I have a Saturday Night Special and I like it a lot, I have a lot more expensive releases that I shoot 3D with and indoor, but I am scared to hunt with those releases because Im afraid of losing one haha.... I didn't like how it was to hook to the D loop it wa awkward.... SO I bought a Friday Night Delight also.... The release is fairly small but fits my hand good, and the Friday Night Delight with the open jaw design is awesome for hunting in my opinion... I rig up a simple slip not and basically leave the release hanging from my arm. Most of my hunting is spot and stalk and that makes a huge difference, I cant just clip the release to the string and leave it hanging there in a tree stand etc. If you dont want to spend a ton of money I think either of these releases serve the purpose quite well!
you can also use the friday or saturday night delight if you want to shoot a longer draw length !
