I had mine in my garage for a bit hanging on the pegboard wall. but then somebody told me - no no. I have my car in there - bikes, scooters and other assorted stuff. The stand will absorb all the odors.

I could double bag it with garbage bags? or should I bring it in the house and into the basement - or a closet?

How do you guys store your treestands in the offseason (besides outside on up a tree - mines a climber).

Or do you guys get new stands every year ;) I could try to run that idea by my misses :darkbeer:

This opens up a new can of worms for the scent control companies. Think about this. For years a lot of hunters have brought their stands inside. It protects them from the elements and extends their life. Without thinking about it they took the stands with all the smells from home. Some of them put them in their cigarette smoke filled vehicals, drove them to the woods, got em all stunk up and still kill deer. How can we possibly do that without scent lock treestand bags. lol

Mine are in the garage on the wall...about 10' or less from the lawn mower and gas cans...and I usually spill a little gas when filling the mower...several days before I get ready to hang them I put them on the deck, spray them down w/some scent killer, let them sit, then throw them in the car, drive them down, and hang them usually anywhere 2-4 weeks before season starts...No issues.

Here is a side question - all you guys put up your stands early and let them sit out there for a while. But you can't do that with climbing stands can you? Or else how do you get back down. So most of you have the stands with the ladders?

I use a climber..When I put it out early i just peg the tree and carry it up then attatch it to the tree and remove pegs on the way down! When I arrive opening morning I just use a long pole (that I stash) to push up on the front of the stand and guide it to the ground.. I have also just used the pegs to get back up it just takes longer!!

My climber has been "lived" at the same tree for the past few years. When it is on the ground I cover it with leaves, moss, and windfall branches. That includes leaving it there during the off season (Dec 31st - Aug 1st). The area I deer hunt in is very productive but a nightmare to pack a stand in and out of. My hang on stand for bear has lived at its tree for 6 years. Right on the edge of a huge blackberry patch.

I have stored all my stands in the garage for 30+ years not a problem. It sounds like your friends are going overboard on their scent control. Most stands there is not that much fabric in them to begin with. If it concerns you that much just place them outdoors a week or so before season or spray them down with a scent killer.

My LoneWolf is stored in my closet. All my other stands are out in the garage.

I just let them air out a while prior to hunting season. Ususally I hang them on a tree out back to do so.

Works for me.

i leave mine in my shed. about a month prior to season i will get them out and leave them in the yard to "air" out. never had a problem doing this.
