Hey guys. New to trail cams in general. Picked up two tactacam reveal XBs. Looking to put them up this coming Saturday but unsure which plan to go to. I’d like to save some money and lock into a yearly plan but unsure if that’s smart. I’d be using it 7 out of 12 months. I don’t know how much action I’ll be seeing so I don’t want to short myself. What’s the best approach to being cost effective while not suffering overages or “I wish I got the bigger plan”?

I guess it depends on how many pics you plan on getting. Mine are all on trails, so not a ton of traffic. Feeders and mineral licks will really increase the numbers.
I run 3 tactacams. I use the monthly plan for 250 pics each. I upgrade them when the prerut kicks in and get 500 pics each camera. After archery or gun season I just revert back to the 250 pic plan.

Hmmm! Have the new tactacam Revel X... my issue with the plans are they POOL your pictures together in your plan (have starter plan 250 before season starts). Now mind you I have beennon phone numerous times last 2 weeks since June 24-25 when I put them out. Now I'm not getting any pictures from either of them, as I have reached my plan limits for cameras??? 250 per camera =500. Don't like the pool of pictures, as one camera will take more photos than other[depending area you set up in]. I have one over looking feeder(more pictures) and the newest one in a big buck area(few pictures, but never know since plan reached limit). Course tactacam customer service say get overage protection [where is savings there or get upgraded] regardless they will still pool your photos all together. Another thing notice is NON of their plan offers request of HD or videos?? So you are NOT able to get any HD pictures when requesting.....poor plans, but yet they want you to upgrade???! For what. I'm taking this new Revel X G2 back and getting another Browning camera, at least I get HD photos when I need them. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANYONE GETTING THIS CAMERA. The camera functions are GREAT z just way their plans setup sucks
I've only gotten few pictures since placed out June 24-25 (see attached as to how many pictures I've gotten, but CS say I have reached my combined limits 250ea camera for 500 pictures...noway. JUST WARE!!!

No, you cannot disable the camera without approaching it and physically turning it off..

With the Tactacams you can change or upgrade your MONTHLY plan any time you want using the app on your cell phone. I usually do it 2 days before the current monthly billing cycle is up. You just have to wait at least a day to take effect on it's next daily check-in.

The monthly Starter plan is 250 pics each month for $5
The monthly intermediate allows 500 pics each month for $8.
The monthly Pro plan allows UNLIMITED pics each month for $13
Each camera you have will be about the same with a slight discount.

The picture count is shared between all cameras. If you have 2 cameras on your account on the intermediate plan it costs $8.00 + $7.50 for each additional camera per month. That gives you 1,000 pics split between 2 cameras. You could basically put 1 camera in a spot with few pics and the other in a high activity location. The picture count keeps a running total until your limit is reached. You could get 200 pics on camera #1 and 800 pics on camera #2 or vice versa. When you reach the limit, both cameras will stop sending pictures to your cell phone.

Hope I explained it satisfactorily.

DO NOT get a yearly plan unless you are sure it is what you want. It cannot be undone. If you don't use them, the money is spent. Do the monthly plans first and see what you like or don't like. Monthly changes don't break the bank.

I'm not pushing for Tactacams, just trying to explain how THEY work.
Other Cellular cameras may fit your needs better. I rolled the dice on mine and am happy with the results.

Good luck!

I'm not a big fan of "pooling" either. I agree it would be nice to select a plan/picture quota for each specific camera.
As for the HD/video requests, they are available, but you have to pay an additional $5 for 50 pics and the same for videos.

I get enough clarity from the transmitted pics and I never use video, so it's not a function I'm willing to pay for.
I can wait to swap the cards when I feel like it.

After I have been using my 3 cell cameras for the late summer end of July and I had it active until end of January on the Pro subscription. I have started to notice that I have around 184 days and I have no reason why I should leave the cameras on the tree and just really take nature pictures. I contacted tacticam and I am just so grateful for the opportunity to have a great person Chris who has been very impactful and very knowledgeable about this situation and how I would be loosing my days and the kicker is that I already had paid for the year subscription and I have a new whole season ahead of me 2024. I have yet to get the cameras reactivated and I will tell you that I am just mildly worried about the set up and activation of my cameras. This time around I have decided to go with Intermediate monthly. This said I am just thinking that this 184 days that I have on credit I don't really get to excited to be forced to add a new card or the one previously added to my account. I really struggled with the way I've paid for the subscription however I was so very pissed when I was there season ended and I had days that was going to waste. So after the discussion we had decided that I should hang on with the monthly plan no matter what type of account I want depending on how many pictures I will save. Either way I will be able to put my account on hold when I'm done with my season when I get my big dog down. The company was a little quiet and didn't have to much information on the situation that I was in otherwise other people are just well off and they don't mind wasting the time

I have 6 Tacts out in field now from 2yrs out. I read your post and understand what I think you are trying to do with your extra 184 days. Questions, why NOT leave cams out and get your targets patterns as they go thru spring summer growth patterns. This way your will know what you have still out on property. Maybe you will see a new one entering area. I do summer scouting and have cams running on solar 12v marine batteries. I set it to over write oldest pictures. I have plan for 500 pic summer time and increase closer to season here in Texas

Overall it is best to go with the monthly plan regardless of how many cameras you may have (I have 4 out in field). My monthly plans better than yearly, as I put on hold the least w active cameras until season starts and deer moving better. I just reactivate these two cameras saving better than yearly plans...which leave you with days id you put cameras on hold-you already paid for them days and you not using em???🤔

I think the plans and descriptions they give are kind of confusing. I picked up a reveal Pro this fall and thought the 500 pic intermediate monthly plan would be the ticket, and I some how missed the fine print I guess. I'm satisfied with the picture quality but I'm a little miffed at the additional fees. I set the camera up for dual burst (2 pics) and video. I set it out & start getting pics, but im only getting one pic and no videos. Then I check and oh, by the way, you have to request each video and it's an additional 5$ for every 50 video request (i guess you request one video and you get charged 5$ and don't get charged for the next 49 requests until you hit request 51 and it starts over). Also, I'm still unclear what they mean by "500" pics per month since it only sends one even if you choose 2 or 3 shot burst and in the fine print states that the additional pics can be seen if you retrieve and download the card or for an additional fee of $9 per month it will send ALL pics and videos to your phone. I put the camera on a travel path and get many blank pics (just the scenery), but when I retrieve and download the card, that 2nd pic and video that didn't show up on my phone has had several pics I would really liked and benefited from seeing pop up on my phone. So basically, I like the camera pic quality but not really the app/plans/cost.
