Trying to decide between the two. Vortex is a little cheaper, but I'm not really concerned about cost, more so quality. Any thoughts? Is the vortex warranty as good as advertis d?

Both have excellent warranties. The monarch 5s have better glass than the diamonbacks and the Vipers IMO.

Sold my vipers for a killer deal on the nikon EDGs... I bought the vipers thinking since my eyesight was bad the glass doesn’t matter that much .....wrong it matters.... Probably more so

I have been using Nikon's MONARCH 5 scope's for about 18 months now and it is definitely the best glass I own. Edge to edge clarity as well as light transmission is excellent. I have let a number of guy's try out my scopes and most went out and bought their own. One buddy tried out my Bergara topped with a MONARCH 5 and he now owns the exact same rifle. Both wear Nikon's Custom Turret's as well. Check out this site's Sponsor's to see if any can help you out.

I currently have a vortex viper 2.5-10x44 on my model 70 .22-250 that I love and another on my model 70 .270. I recently won a Remington model seven 7mm-08 at a gun raffle that my 9 year old son will be using. I didn't want to spend a lot so I bought the vortex diamondback 3-9x40. It doesn't have the same look as my viper but im happy with the glass. I used to be a Nikon monarch fan but have sold them to get vortex class.

My rail and rings come in on Wednesday so I will be able to get it mounted and sighted in by nightfall as long as I don't have to bed the rail.

I have used nikons for a few years but three years ago I made the switch to vortex.

Both are great scopes but for me the vortex lines are better.

I started with the diamondback but have since upgraded to the diamondback hp and as much as I liked the diamondback the hp - models are that much better.

As for as warrenty I have used it three times due to scopes getting broke from falls from tree stand and getting ran over by a four wheeler by a idiot driver and vortex never asked how they just said ship it in and we will repair are replace and all three times they sent me a new scope.

You really can't go wrong with either company's scope I just like vortex better for what I do with my rifle.

Before you buy you should sit down and really decide what you want the scope to do, hunting only, target and hunting, mostly target work with a few deer hunts.

The most over looked detail about a scope is how long it is and how much it weight's.

Hope this helps you sir.

I made this same decision about 3 months ago. Went with the Vortex strictly because the eye relief on the Nikons didn't work for me at all. I thought the glass was pretty close, both were/are excellent compared to the cheap Binos I've been using. After I made my choice I ended up getting 10x diamondbacks on eBay for 152 shipped, which I thought was a great price.

I have used vortex binos for years. And I went to cabelas to buy their vortex new HD binos and their saleman to me to check out their HD binos. And only thing I can find different in two was the eye cups and about 250.00 dollars. So I bought cabelas.

I have both. I own two Vortex Diamondbacks and one Nikon Monarch. I was real excited about the monarch when I got it. After putting it on and going out in the field I put my full support behind Vortex. Both Vortex work better at night (mostly used for predator hunting) But that's just my opinion and I always like to say opinions are like *******s everyone has one and they all stink

Don't use others for an opinion. When it comes to optics, go spend some time with both at BP or Cabelas. Look at how bright things are and the image at the edge of the glass. I always try to have people read price tags and see what pair they are able to read more clearly especially without having to try to read them.

I work with Vortex for Cabelas so I am a little partial, but I suggest you get what is best for your eyes. Let us know what you decide after spending some time behind them both.

Doesn't matter if we're talking binoculars or scopes. Here's the skinny the monarch 5 line is in the same class as the Viper line. Which is better than the diamond back line. Anyone that says diamondbacks are superior optically is a fan boy. For the most part the monarch 5s will have better glass than the Viper rifle scope line. Vortex has a awesome warranty no doubt but their rifle scopes optically are by far not class leading.I shoot quite a bit of long range shooting and have lots of friends that do. We've tried about every optic out there. What we've found is Sightron seems to be the best optically for the 1000 dollar and less guys. This includes binoculars too
