Vortex Diamondback 8x42 or Nikon Monarch 8x42. Which wold you choose and why?

Warranty should not be the primary focus, although, it would help determine which pair. You should go with quality of the optics, I cannot speak for vortex, but I can speak for nikon, which is what I went with. You should research optics, and what to look for in a quality pair of binos, I did, however, at the time I bought the nikon, I hadn't even heard of vortex. If both are equal, I would defer to the customer support, and then warranty. JMO

I went with the Zen Ray's after alot of research but I like the Vortex's also. I've read several threads on here about Nikon's needing to be returned repeatedly for repair so I shied away from them.

Nikeon vs Vortex

I have both the 8x42's. I think the eyecups on the Vortex are more comfortable but don't like the lens covers for the eye piece very well. The Nikons may be just a tad sharper but I really had to look very hard to tell the difference on license plates at 75 yards. Right now, the Nikons are a good buy with a $50 mfg rebate. Both are great for the price range.
jmho!

Checked them both out. The Nikon's were brighter and clearer to both me and my Dad.

I went with the Nikon 10X42s and bought a pair for Dad on his birthday.

The Vortex 10X42 were very nice, but the Nikon's seemed to have a slight edge....JMO..

Decided

Well I've decided. Since I currently own a pair of Vortex vultures 8.5 x 50 and I like them, but I always wanted to try the Nikons, so I just ordered a pair of Nikon Monarchs 8.5x56 through my local dealer, Price was $279 to my door, seemed like a fair deal, IF I don't care for them, I guess you'll see them on here in a feew weeks and get another pair of vortex.

Not even close!

Nikon is hands down the better company. And opticaly there is no comparison between the top end Nikons and the top end Vortex. Vortex will probably be going out of buisness with companies like Zen Ray popping up with way better optics at half the price.

:ROFLMAO: Have you tried the top of the line Vortex products?? I think they hold up to any company's optics. Throw in their customer service and warranty and you can't go wrong.

As far as them going out of business. You couldn't be further from the truth. Vortex is going steady and offering new products every year.

I don't mind reading about people comparing two different products and deciding they like whatever product better than I do. I do think it's wrong to make stupid statements like they are going out of business.

Zen Ray has dominated Vortex in all the testing that we have done. And if you go on the birding forums you will see that they beat the Vortex's in independant testing in every single catagory. Actually its not even really that close. And at $350.00 compared to $700.00 I would say Vortex had better be looking over their shoulder.

Who is Zen Ray?--I have never heard of them. I guess they are a new company and good luck to them. However, Vortex has a devoted following based on their superior customer service--you may be right that Zen Ray was rated higher than Vortex--but I know plenty of instances of companies with good products and crappy customer service. I think this is what sets Vortex apart from other similar companies. They are super easy to deal with and have a no questions asked unlimited fully transferable lifetime warranty--so you could give your child a pair of Vortex glass and they would be fully covered. Not a bad deal if you ask me.

For the record I have Vortex Razors 8x42.

Yes, I think the Razors are better than the Monarchs. They should be since they are twice the cost.

However, I do think the Nikon Monarchs are better than the Vortex Diamondbacks.

Good choice, and honestly everyone has different eyes. Ask 10 ppl their opinion and get 12 different answers. I picked up the Razors cheap after someone bought some Swaros and wanted to unload on the Vortex's quick. I had Vortex Fury's before the Razors. I was going to get the Monarchs but a outdoor store on Ebay was dropping their binocs and I picked up the Fury's new for $115 off.

Good hunting.

I have never looked through a pair of Zen Ray before but hear rave reviews. But saying Vortex will go out of business is a little absurd. Thats like saying Chevy will put Mercedes out of business. The Chevy is half the cost though right? Each has their place....

The glass btw the two sets them apart alone.....Nikon is so much more superior then Vortex.

I personal use a different brand...but of these two I would take the Nikon

i love the way the nikons look.... but here is the problem.... if you send something in to nikon for work dont exspect it back for at least 6 months.. the last time i sent a scope in it was just under a year and I am still waiting for some binos that is about a year and 3 months now...

I wish i would have bought the vortex...
