I'm looking into buying a wall tent

14x16'ish
One that will hold 3 people and gear comfortable, along with a stove.

I've been doing some research and it seems like Davis tents are the way to go.

Do any of you own a davis tent? Would you buy another one?

if not, which brand do you own/familiar with?

I'd appreciate any info you guys/gals care to share!

Wow just researched Davis tents then looked at Montana Canvas. It has been years since I bought a tent and wow have prices gone insane! I have a local fab 12x14 now out of business then a Montana Canvas 14x16 I think it is. friend has a Montana Canvas 16x20 and a smaller 12x14 maybe? Mine are 15oz fabric which they don't list anymore- at least not that I see. 10oz and 12oz standards now. I have aluminum frames with full length ridge poles, nothing cut for pack use. I'd absolutely buy another if i i was in market. Also have a military 12x20 cook tent with 9' main and 12' rear section heavy weight fabric as well so I'm set on tents for rest of my life. As long as you take care of them- any good canvas wall tent will last. I like sod cloths and storm flaps with additional buckles and heavy zippers. Floors are nice to keep things clean inside. I use a cylinder stoves yukon model as I hate getting up in night to stoke fire. It will run you out if you let it. watch the water tank and keep it full, things are good. thinking back, I've probably had these tents for likely close to 20 years now. as long as you keep them dry and store them dry they are good. a few companies make a cleaner for them if you get mold/mildew. I let that happen once on accident, used the special cleaner and dried properly. it's stained permanently in that spot but good otherwise on that tent. others are fine as I learned a lesson there. Keep them clean, keep them dry and don't pack them away for the season til you're sure they are dry and you're golden. I'm sure Davis are good, any good wall tent company that uses a heavy fabric will hold up if you take care of it. I wouldn't go thin- I've known guys that had thinner material and they just don't last long term. My buddy had a 10oz and it's been replaced. lightest he has now is 12. Maintenance is key though you have to take care of them. Clean and dry is key before storage.

Best of Luck,

Mike

I have had a Kodiak canvas tent for about 10 years, and it’s still going strong. The quality of the canvas is quite good, and the poles are galvanized steel and hold up under windy or snowy conditions. Add a Mr. Heater Big Buddy unit for 4 season use without the risk of carbon monoxide. I agree with the information in the above post…drying before storing is key.

Hello, for lack of a tent-specific section in the gear area, I'm posting here to see what everyone would suggest for a wall tent. I've looked at everything from "The Wall Tent Shop" to the Cabela's Alaknak. I plan to use this tent for years to come on Wyoming and Colorado elk hunts, so everything from September to mid-late October. I'll take the good, the bad, the ugly on anything. Thanks in advance!!! PS meant for this to go in the "Elk" section.
