I am amazed at what they will eat. I feed a mix of corn, sunflower, soybean and molassas. I put all kind of treats out there. The Valentine sugar cookies, some lemon poppyseed scones, they love them. I peeled some oranges and put them out, they wouldn't touch them.
saw deer eat.
dog food
horse food
dead rabbits
bird eggs
baby birds
old dry fish
saw a vid of one eating a full grown blue bird.
they will chew on bone.
lick a car bumper for salt & bugs.
They eat all the left over crap from my garden. Squash, pumpkins, watermelons, tomatoes, even jalapeño's! Always wanted to film a deer after it ate one of those. Just read a article somewhere talking about how deer were eating lead bullets on some military base. I think they must be related to goats.
I know one guy that feeds catfish pellets due to the high protien contain and his trail cameras showed the deer perffered it over corn. Black oil sunflower seeds are a good one too and very high in protien.
I know a guy that feeds them left over doughnuts from the bakery he works at, i didn't believe him so i went to his house and watched the deer hammer every donut he put out.
We had a tame semi-tame deer at a treatment center i worked at. She would eat bananas as long as we pilled them. She wouldnt eat an orange for nothing!
they'll eat the pellets fresh, the problem is they are not water proof like corn, so as soon as get wets it puffs up into a big pile of crap. Just like comere deer...it is dry pellets just like animal feed, but if it rains on your pile its trash...
There was a post on here of deer raiding a birdfeeder for the seed. I thought that was a bit strange.
