What’s your favorite binocular chest pack ? I’ve been looking at marsupial for the way the cover folds down .. but would like others a pinions!

I've only owned the Marsupial gear bino harness and the Vortex one that comes with their binos. so I can't offer up an opinion on which is best among all of the ones out there.

However, I can list some reasons why I like the Marsupial.

-It's a streamlined shape and not bulky at all.
-The front opening is something I like much better than the stock Vortex harness.
-Inside fleece lining is quiet compared to the nylon fabric liner of the Vortex.
-The bino harness and the Range finder pocket attach together closely which keeps the rangefinder from moving around too much.
-The magnet opening is easy to use and quiet. This assumes that you just don't allow the magnet to snap shut. Just use some control and it's quiet.

*** However the Magnets DO mess with your compass. It may not be that much of a concern these days since most don't use a compass. If you use a compass hold it away from you and below the waist to ensure the magnets don't interfere with your compass.

  • The optional bow holder clips are nice.
  • Made in America. I care, maybe you don't. It's up to you who you give your money to.

I like the mystery ranch. It’s not bulky like the Alaska chest purse but has enough space to keep a gps in one side pocket, my release or rangefinder in the other, and my tags in the little zipper compartment on the front. I stuff the cover inside under my binos is I’m using them often. No complaints.

I’ve tried the following:
  • Vortex Glass Pack - very basic, currently holds my 12x50s only because it was free and I want the protection. I never wear it on my chest though.
  • AGC - too bulky and seemed to want to hang away from my chest
  • Badlands - felt like the magnets would snap shut too much. The front opens away, which is great, but it sits out like a shelf then. Unlike the Marsupial that folds all the way down and stays secure.
  • Marsupial - checks all the boxes and was my favorite. Made here locally in Phoenix and the guy is really nice. Just sold it last night though. Needed a small for my GPO 8x32s. Hence my next point...
  • Stone Glacier’s Skyline - first off, I’m a fanboy of SG. Their new bino harness is awesome as it’s adjustable. So my 8x32s for bow season can fit very nicely and it’s ridiculously compact, or I can put in my 10x42RF binos for rifle season. The range finder pouch is adjustable as well, which will be a nice change from my Marsupial that I had to really dig for. Ended up folding a cloth to shove down in there to keep the RF raised up a bit. Sooooo, one harness to fit numerous different glass, this is where I landed. BTW, the folks in Bozeman were awesome when I stopped in there this last summer.

There was a recent thread on this you may want to check as well but here are my thoughts.

I've owned KUIU, AGC, Marsupial and some others. And I've ruled out FHF and Sitka based on some obvious shortfalls (from my perspective).

Of those I've owned or assessed Marsupial is heads above the rest for sure. The fit, features and function are simply superior. As mentioned though, if a traditional compass is within about a foot of the magnets it will distort the compass. That's a small negative but as long as you understand that it won't be an issue - and people rarely use compasses any more (other than in a backup emergency situation).

But, I do have a Stone Glacier Skyline heading my way for testing. It also looks like a great pack (without the magnet) so we'll see how it compares. I'll be doing a review and comparison to the reigning king of bino packs (the Marsupial) once I get it and get a little testing under my belt.
