What is the best and the worst wild game animal you've ever ate?

We ate squirrel quite a bit when I was a kid. I can't remember if I liked it all that much but I know the old man loved it........... and still does. Rabbit is great. I think all game can be terrible if it's not cooked right. On the same token I think you could make some great meals out of otherwise not so good meat if you know what you're doing. I'm still working on that part.

I'm not a big fan of pheasant but I had a Thai restaurant owner ask for some. Man that was some of the best food I've ever had........... except for the shot I kept spitting out.

Worst tasting I've ever had was the first antelope I ever shot. Didn't know you had to get the hide off fast. They have a ton of scent glands, and the meat will be bad if you leave the hide on till you cut it up. Now I take the hide off when I gut, and the meat is good.

Edit:
Forgot best. Would have to say elk, though the yearling whitetail doe I shot this year was right up there with most elk I've had.

I agree with the whole it depends on the cook thing. Squirrel would be equivilent to chicken gizzards. There are just as tough, meat looks the same, I just cant see how anyone can eat it. And its so hard to keep the hair off your meat. As far as spitting out shot, i've never had problems with this on any game. I usually find it easy to locate and remove shot from an animal while im washing it after cleaning.

The worst I have ever eaten was kangaroo, the best is venison backstraps.

LOL that might have been the problem. I don't think they had much experience with wild game. I doubt they bothered to remove the shot when they were preparing it.

Doc,
I had kangaroo tail in Australia and its was best meat I have ever had. I hate veggies and eat red meat and nothing but red meat. That Roo tail was better than any ribeye I've had.
Yet again I think it boils down to the cook thing. The strange combination I had was a Hungarian chef cooking kangaroo meat. This just isn't a good combination. It is probably like a Mexican chef cooking Polar Bear.

Doc, butterfly them backstraps up, shake em' up in Booms special blend of seasonings, pour a little lea and perrins for tenderness, some a-1 chicago steakhouse marinade, a drop of a-1 into the bag, let butterflyed straps marinade in fridge for a day. Remove, throw on pan and bake, or grill [even better]and you got yourself a meal. Could even brush some sweet baby rays hickory barbque sauce on them if you wanted. For any who have not tried baby rays hickory []the hickory flavor is the best[] you havent lived life yet. I used to use KC masterpiece and loved it, then I was going to make my own sauce, but then I discovered rays and descided my own sauce would be a waste, as barbque sauce had already been perfected :)

Boom, now you have me wanting to fire up the grill and it's midnight. As a matter of fact, I just had the pleasure of sampling Ray's Sauce for the first time on my trip to Texas and it was served over venison backstraps....backstraps, mmmm...backstraps..mmmmm

Lol. I cant wait to fill up my freezer. Going out for Turkey with my bow in a month or so. Have no ideal how to cook it. Has anyone tried deep frying the breast? Thought about buying a Turkey fryer, but not sure about how wild turkey would taste fried up.

Now that I have tried and it was phenomenal. Don't eat too much of it if you plan on being in the treestand the next day though.

I've tried both and frying the breast is good but frying the entire bird is excellent! Wild turkey is even better cooked that way. It's the only thing I've been able to do to make my wild turkeys edible.

Best; Stone sheep or cow elk
Worst; Hawaiian goat (Or sheep or whatever the heck they are)

I'll do a search but where can I find the baby rays sauce? I'm in Ca.
Hmm. I dont know. They sell it in most grocery stores here in Indiana. I would imagine you could find it there. I love the stuff. The regular flavor is good, but doesnt even compare to the Hickory Flavor. So make sure you get the Hickory. Make sure you look for "Sweet Baby Rays" and not just "Baby Rays"

Best and worst.....

Elk was the best ...I'd trade all of my venison for half a s much elk back its so good..

Worst I hated squirel. Just couldn't get it.. also black bear can be tough if you don't stew it.

Wow, you are like the second person I know that knows how to take care of antelope. :thumbs_up

Antelope are probably the best eating critter I've ever had.

Another thing that makes antelope tast bad is if they are ran a lot. Some hunters were chasing antelope around in a jeep for over a mile and then say that antelope is the worst eating animal on earth. Buncha ******s.

Remember antelope tastes as good as you treat it.

Worst eating meat is fish eating ducks, I can handle the dabblers, its the mergs that are the nastiest. :pukey:
