What's everyone using for string silencers on their compound bows these days?

I've hunted in the thick woods of PA for quite a few years where my max shot was only around 40 yards, so string noise really wasn't any issue for me. Now that I'm living out west and shooting longer distances I want to quiet things down a bit.

I've been using Bowjax Ultra Jax II silencers for the past year and they do an awesome job quieting the shot. However, I shoot a lot all year round and I found that I have to replace the silencers every couple hundred shots. The 2 on my cables are fine, but the 2 on the main string tend to split and come flying off eventually. I can't seem to get them positioned so that this doesn't happen. I have a bow press, so changing them out isn't difficult, just an annoyance when it's every couple weeks. I like the light weight and not having to serve them in, but I'm looking for something a bit more durable.

Curious to hear what others are using.

I’ve been running limbsaver string leeches for years and have no complaints. The old style that resembled the letter z never seemed to last longer than a couple months but after they changed the design they’ve held up well. I’ve got some on a bow that are now installed on the 3rd string set and still going strong.

Just the stock monkey tails and I'm not convinced they make that big of a difference out of a tuned bow. Everything added to the strings also take off some speed as well.

Cat Whiskers tied on with a constrictor knott.

Otherwise I run without them

Beaver balls/Beaver Tails.

Or for my Black Widow bows and a few other recurves:

Spider Silencers. They look bad-ass.

You get a free set of them with any BW fast flite or flemish twist dacron!

Beaver Balls on trad bows
Monkey Tails/Apex : easy install, min.speed loss
Jax : do the job but hard install/wear replace
Leeches : durable, quiet, robust, min. Speed loss
Whiskers are old school cool, quiet the shot but rob speed.
I like the whiskers but the tails and apex are so easy to install/replace.
Sims leeches are probably best all around in my opinion.

I use cat whiskers. However, I got the best compliments from other shooters when I put beaver balls on my compound. I had been wanting to try it and saw another AT user using beaver balls. That gave me the motivation to follow through.

What would you consider a heavy arrow? I'm currently shooting a 456 grain arrow at 290 fps. I've shot a variety of 400 gr thru 500 gr arrows and couldn't hear a noticeable difference. Are we talking something like 550gr+ maybe?
