between the two go with the sweats-denim is not warm and will hold moisture.

 

Warm is good but would be a good idea for your "bottom" layer to be one of the kind that is moisture resistant and quick drying incase you break a sweat :wink:

i froze for years just using sweats and thermals

this year i used to thin thermals under my blue jeans then put sweat pants over that and i never got close to cold.

i would take the jeans over my sweats.

Fleece would be my personal preference but I would go with sweat pants before I would blue jeans.

 

On a quick search something like this "moisture wicking-quick drying" instead of 100% cotton traditional "thermals" Overlayering is just as bad as underlayering and the wind really messes with the perfect combo:chortle: I have some from sportsmans warehouse(their brand) that are great:nod:

thermals under sweats is what i have worn for years. I wore this combo with my cabelas bibs and parka in 13 degree temps/15 mph winds. The only thing that got cold was my feet.

 

Sweat pants for sure.

 

Buy some fleece wader pants. I go long johns then fleece then bibs... stay warm down to 6 degrees for 4-5 hours with my arctic shield boot covers. :darkbeer::darkbeer:

 

AVOID COTTON like the Plague......

I LOVE my Rocky baselayer anti-mircobial fleece. They are around $25 for top and bottom at walmart. Put fleece or fleece sweats over it, then coveralls and I'm good to sit below 20 degrees with Lousiana humidity (chill factor much colder than actual).

 

In real cold weather, 10or less, I wear UnderArmor thermals under fleece lined jeans, and then my 1 piece insulated hunting suit. If I'm going to be doing a lot of hiking, then I'll skip the fleece lined jeans. It seems to me that good fleece is the warmest. Even in gloves and hats. I had a awesome wool jacket/ pants that was very warm but i out grew it years ago.

 

Cotton Kills. Avoid all cotton based clothing and I am certain you will stay warmer and dryer!

go to e-bay...type in thinsulate jeans....this is what I use...when it is sub freezing I wear poly-thermals under that ...just make sure you buy a waist size larger ...worth every penny ...

I have a pair of thinsulate jeans with briar proof legs. use them for rabbit and bird hunting and they are very warm
