Regular salt vs. Trophy rock. Interesting video.

Its the salt that brings em in....put a few near (within 50 yards or so) a water source and watch the visits to the rock triple!

calcium (min) .35%
calcium (max) .85%
phosphorus .02%
salt (min) 91.0%
salt (max) 96.0%

magnesium (min) .06%
potassium (min) .03%
sulfur (min) .07%
manganese (min) 5ppm
zinc (min) 3ppm
iron (min) 300ppm
copper (min) 3ppm
iodine (min) 10ppm

What I picked up in the video Is that it came before the acid rains and other garbage. Not just salt but the various minerals necessary for good bone structure. The big thing might be it just taste a little better. Regardless what makes them like it, if it is put in the right place, the deer will come.:secret:

They dont seem to prefer it where i live. It works but so does anything else. Now, if they had a salt source they might but they drink from the stuff put on the roads and everything.

One thing worth noting, this summer we had a massive amount of rain. I had one in my garage that started to suck up water!

Not sure why but seems like most of the time I've put out TR, cattle blocks red or white or even the small apple salt blocks the TR gets hit more. I put salt at some of our bait sites for something to be there if corn runs out. We are near or next to salt tidal waters on our places and salt doesn't draw deer like out west or in the mountains like I've seen, do hit it in spring and summer but no big dirt holes like some guys see. It's TR for me.

They do not grow antlers by any stretch of the imagination. What they can do is balance the intake of green to help digestion so yes that in itself is a health benefit. Nothing I am aware of besides protein will grow deer antlers and I know a guy who owns a deer farm. Go too high and it make them have the runs. The biggest factor in antlers is animal age and genetics. We cant give wild deer enough of anything we grow or mine to change that.

Each Area has some minerals just not all so where the ones that are in TR have what they need and why they hit them better than just salt! Here in Michigan in our CWD Zone we can no longer use Minerals or Bait as minerals are concerned "Bait" and we could only use "minerals" during deer seasons and deer don't use them then...

So if you have some minerals where you are the deer might on;y use what they need while some areas have little of what TR Has and minerals deer need attract them for better Deer Herd health... Each area varies what minerals are their naturally...

They may contain the same ingredients but there is no comparison as to which the deer here and at our place in Ohio prefer. The Trophy Rock wins hands down and it isn't close. Not sure why they prefer the Trophy Rock, but the camera don't lie. May be kinda like the difference between Coke and generic Sam's Choice Cola. They have the same ingredients but I can sure tell the difference every time.

I'm done with the trophy rocks. At least until we quit getting these heavy rains. I lost 3 of them already after downpours. I don't remember this ever happening before this year. I will say they work better than the cheap ones in my area as far as buck hitting them.

The local AG store near me sells the 50lb brown and white cattle blocks like you can get at Tractor Supply. They also sell a 44lb "trace mineral" block that is made by Redmond mines, the same company that owns Trophy Rock. I honestly think this 44lb block is just ground up compressed TR. It even has the crystallized look to it. Its only a dollar or 2 more than the 50lbers, so I bought 3 of them this year, they seem to work pretty well.

I put out a salt block and the deer didn't use it. A couple of fawns on the camera curious. I put out feed and the only ones that ate it were the fawns, and the raccoons, and the foxes and the possums. (not all at the same time). I see more deer on scrapes that I made. So I'm not wasting time and money with trying to feed them any more, just hanging my cameras on the scrapes.

We did an experiment a few years ago where we placed a TR and a AG Block side by side about 4 feet apart from each other. I love statistics so I ran the numbers. I don't have the exact numbers with me here at work but if I recall correctly 91% of the pics of deer at the mineral lick was using the TR.

Maybe deer just want to use the one on right side... or maybe they liked the TR better... not sure but the math speaks for itself for us.

My wallet would like it if the deer liked the cheaper mineral blocks as much as the trophy rocks. Maybe I've spoiled the deer in my area with high dollar stuff. But like lots of others have said, the trophy rock wins hand down on our farm.

yeah there is no proof of that ..sure would like to see some science study done on that...should be easy put one out in CWD
zone and test it daily or what ever ...but what about natural scrapes? ,deer always nose to nose each other all the time, feed
on the same everything ..pretty hard to separate deer even with low numbers they socialize and herd up ...
