I'm looking to purchase my first crossbow in the next week or two, and was curious of pros and cons between the two! The bow will be for my wife to use when she tags along for a hunt and occasionally me lol. Just want some opinions from people who have experience with the two. I can get the recruit for $200 new in the box from a friend, and the sniper is $299 at academy near me. Any input is appreciated!

I had a Barnett Brotherhood (not an M-4) and it was a good bow but I prefer my Sniper 370 but the Sniper has a 185 pound pull and a very creepy trigger which would be hard to master.

I just sold my PSE Fang and it has a much better trigger and a 150 pound pull which is actually 75 pounds with a rope cocking device

What did you not like about the recruit? And would you recommend the fang over the sniper?

I was shopping for an under $300 crossbow and settled on the Sniper. Read a lot of negative reviews of Barnett bows having string failure problems, didn't care for the 'plasticky' feel of them. Higher draw weight on the Sniper - I do have to say for a smaller guy like myself, it is a looooong stretch to cock it - don't know how the Barnett compares. Like my scope with the Sniper vs the Red dot with the Barnett. I liked that I can swap out my buttstock for any AR-platform stock, and add a different front grip if I like - again, not sure of the Barnett.

Don't think you can go wrong with either, it probably comes down to personal preference. If you can get a chance to hold both of them in your hands I'd go for the more comfortable.

I haven't actually shot either one, but have held and handled both. One thing about your post is that you say the crossbow is for your wife. Not a big Barnett fan, but they are small and light, and handle well for a smaller person. The Sniper is, from what I read, a better crossbow, and one of the best deals currently available. If it is too long/heavy for your wife to handle, none of that matters too much. A lightly used Recruit in good conditon for $200 is not a bad way to let your wife try a crossbow. If she doesn't like it, I think you could sell it for close to what you paid and move on. JMHO

The Barnett Recruit was my first crossbow back in February 2014. I had a trigger issue that I had to send the stock in to Barnett which they replaced. The factory cables were terrible. Even though Barnett sent replacements, I ordered new string and cables from Core Archery and they are great.

I also was able to get a set of Raptor cams (CNC machined versus cast aluminum) from Barnett and feel more confident with everything. With the addition of a TenPoint SDS system, it's a great little crossbow now.

Having a Barnett Recruit, a Scorpyd Ventilator, and a Mission Dagger - the Dagger is quickly becoming my favorite. Because of the adjustable stock I think the Dagger is a great crossbow for woman too. I'd try to find a good used one for your wife - she'll thank you later! :teeth:

The Recruit is a piece of crap imo, better lower end stuff out there,I handled the Wicked Ridge bows,I wanted to like the feel but didnt.Nice bows tho and great company,my next one will be a Ten point i assume as i like the titan ss a lot,I wouldn't buy the recruit if it was 50 dollars.

By no means am I in support of the Barnett Recruit, I wouldn't buy one again unless it was for peanuts. I've never seen the Centerpoint but I'd be inclined to go with it anyway!

Looks like the barnett is off the list lol. I'll just put a little bit with it and get something else. What bows would yall recommend that me and my wife could both shoot preferably under $400 set up?

Thanks for the replies. I just got on the website and seen the invader and warrior package. The invader is 489.99 but comes with the integrated cocking system and 10 more fps...worth the extra $90 bucks?

Yeah I know. I guess i just thought it was neat to have the rope right there everytime you need it.

in my opinion the extra 90$ is worth it between those two bows, but I had the warrior for a season, it was the older version, built like tanks, screams America, the new Warrior is 20 fps faster than the old one, lighter, better arrows, and more compact, both will put meat in the freezer

I'm a big fan of the Sniper 370 and know more than a few folks that are as well. It's not a 1000+ Xbow but looking at features and performance, it certainly will compete with bows in the $500-700 range. It was #9 on Outdoor Life's 2016 Xbow review and they named it the "Great Buy" out of the 14 Xbows they reviewed. I like it for value and performance. I have upgraded the scope to a TP RangeMaster Pro, added Limbsavers, put a FabDefense stock on it and an Ultimate sling. Mix in a half dozen BEEs with Grim Reapers and it's really a great hunting package that shoots 350+ fps and comes in well under $600.

Well it looks like the invader will be my choice. How are the scopes on the wicked ridge bows? I know some scopes are horrible on the package deals.

The scopes aren't that good. They are the multi line scope but they won't be any worse than the scopes that will come with the ones you are looking at. The optics on any of the bows in that price range are going to stink but you can always upgrade later. The proview 11 is a decent scope but you would have to bump up to the Titan SS to get it. You could check with Wyvern and see if he has any used scopes laying around. Probably not but it won't hurt to ask when you call.

I do not know about the scope , But, I bought one of the WR Invaders went they first come out . The new ones are upgraded ..Mine came with a dot scope and I put a hawk scope on it. The WR line Are well built safe crossbows . I looked at Barnett before I bought my Invader and just seeing the strings/cables on them scared me. Mine has held up great with a lot of hard hunting I can't really remember if it was 3 or 4 years ago when I got it ..Still has the same string and cables But, I will change them after this season. The accu50 is one of the reasons I bought it . It is nice to have. and my Invader is very accurate 50-60 yards ..Now, I have a 370 as well and like it a lot .but, the Invader has a great track record with me..

This is a rough sketch of my new line of Pinshooter bows. I have a few refinements I might do later. Note Duke that I added the toilet paper scope! I'm open to suggestions. If you guys would spread the word to Ten Point about my drawing. I heard a while back they was looking for a graphics designer and IF and I do mean IF my bow business falls through I'd like them to keep me in mind for the position.
