Lone Wolf Alpha + 4 Climbing sticks... how I pack them...

Someone asked me to post up pictures of how i stack the sticks on my 2005 Lone wolf alpha. I don't do it the way Lone Wolf reccommends.... the sticks "stick" up too high and you can't really carry anything over the stand (like a back pack) with the sticks mounted like Lone Wolf reccommends.

My way only requires one short bungee cord. Also... I ditched the original velcro strap to hold the sticks togther.... go with a 2nd bungee.... much faster, tougher and secures them better.

Here it is....

Total weight with the four sticks... is 20.5 lbs.... if you only have three sticks, it's 18 lbs.

Yea, the Gorilla seat fits pretty good. It's not an exact fit, but it's good enough so as it's comfortable.... waaayyyyy more comfortable than the original, 2005 "new" seat.

It doesn't mount to my pack. I have back pack straps on the stand (nice ones) and I put it on, and then wear my back pack over it. I just gotta extend the backpack's straps a little to give it more clearance.

Nice job ZA206,
When is Lonewolf gonna wake up, and give us a seat that is actually COMFORTABLE???? Geez...
I wish they would also make the seat itself a TOUCH bigger, but not by much.
It would be nice to make each stick a little longer too. I would love for 4 sticks to get us to 30 feet. Guess that might not be feasible though...
Oh well.. Lonewolf is a nice stand indeed....

Nice post ZA206 Thanks for sharing the pictures showing how you bungee your sticks to the stand. I am not stocking the sticks this season but have plenty of Alpha Hang ons, hand climber combos, sit-n-climb combos, along with foot rest kits and bow grommets. Anyone intersted can pm me for prices but I will be out of town Mon - Thurs.

Hey, I've got a question I forgot to mention.
What is the smallest, and largest diameter tree, that the LW Hang On can strap to??
Since you can only get 20' with 4 sticks, it would probably be best to find a nice big hardwood, that has some GOOD background cover to help cover your outline, while you're only 20' in the air. It would be nice to know that you can strap around a GOOD sized tree, with the stock straps....

Yeah, don't they get it? Best hang on out there, but ya gotta buy somebody elses seat to complete the package! I can honestly say that if it weren't for that seat, I would probably own two Alpha hang ons. Right now I own zero simply because of the seat. Ok, enough crying, carry on guys.:D

The stand was $169 last year and I think I got the four sticks for $135.... they are a little more expensive MSRP now, but you can probably find some deals on the internet that are closer to the old prices. I think the Gorilla seat was $15.

To get up to 30 ft. each stick would have to be 5 ft. long (or more)... no thanks. They are currently about three feet long each and are a great size for packing.

Smallest tree? I dunno.... I had my alpha in a 6" OD tree  (where the stand was attached).... up about 15 ft. I was desperate to hunt over a pair of huge scrapes... this was the only tree that worked. I swayed BIG TIME with the wind... talk about freaky.... I wouldn't reccommend anything smaller than 8".... it'll go on a smaller tree if needed though.

About how much does that set up run? And is it easy to put up/how long does it take the average person to set up?

Thanks for the idea of a better way to attach the sticks. I've got three and I always thought they stuck out too much the way I was attaching them. I'm gonna try the bungees.

I've got two Alpha hang-ons...one with the old seat and one with the new. I think the new seat is much better than the old and ordered one to replace my older seat. The new seat is comfortable enough for me.

Thats a nice set up, I had those same sticks when I used a loc on. I would think you could hit 20 pretty easy with the sticks alone, throw in a branch and a climbing peg or two and you could easily get 25 plus I would think....wait, I don't want to be that high!! But you COULD do it!! '94

Just wanted to bring this back to the top. I got me a new Lone Wolf and was looking for this thread for some input.

So how are you liking that stand by now?

Yep, four's a minimum... in my experience. I had three, and it just wouldn't get me to a "comfortable" enough height... I'm waiting on one more if Lone Wolf will ever catch up on their backorders.

Great idea on packing them "sideways", by the way... They do indeed stick out too far when stacking them away from the stand.

4 sticks should get you to 20 feet fairly easily. You just need to start your first stick up a ways. So you can reach it but it takes a little effort if you know what I mean. Then space the others accordingly. If you pick the right tree 3 sticks will reach close to 20 feet.

I love the Alpha and the climbing sticks are great as well. Good idea for packing. I usually just carry the stand in one hand and the sticks in the other. I lash my bow to my pack. It works OK but I may give this idea a try.

I've used the sticks and stand on a couple of big old Oak trees. The straps are plenty long for most trees.

I will show you how I strap my 2006 Lone Wolf. I have 3 lone wolf steps and one gorilla but it al would work the same if they were all lone wolfs. I use an elastic tiedown net with plastic tiedown hooks instead of the bungee straps like I see a lot of you guys using. This makes it easy to put layered clothing under so you don't get hot on the way to your setup. These elastic nets are available at Wallyworld or motorcycle places for around $5.00. Another great use for the net; once in your tree, wrap the net around the tree at the height you desire and the net has 6 hooks. You use 4 of them to hook around the tree and this leaves 2 that you can use to hang stuff on. I use one to hang my detacheable quiver on. I also use one of these nets on my Double Bull blinds for transporting to the woods. I shove my chair under it and anything else that I wish to. These nets are GREAT!!!! Being a biker I know the usefulness of these nets. Notice I use a side mount bowholder so I can use whatever bow I want and my platform is free for me to move my feet more than a center mount lone wolf. HCH
BTW your way looks great too.
